My used 05 seqouia only came with a valet key and one remote. Toyota is telling me that they have to replace ECU to program a new master key. They want $300 dollars for ECU not encluding labor. Does anyone else here have any other ideas?
I had the exact same problem. You're pretty much screwed.
They should not be charging for the ECU, dealer told me that Toyota will not charge for the ECU 1 time per owner. The deal should be that you pay the labor to replace the ECU + charges for keys and programming. $300 should get you 2 master and 1 valet key, remotes will be extra.
Here's what I did: I had copies made at the hardware store; 1 for me, 1 for my wife, and 1 for the house. If the key should get lost we can use a spare to unlock the vehicle and have it towed to the nearest dealer and pay the $300 for new keys at that time.

2001-2007 Prius
Both of these vehicle have a seperate immobilizer ECU, that can be changed. All the other vehicles your reffering to have the immobilizer built into the engine ECU, those are the covered vehicles.

mustang67408, Aren't the last couple years gen 1 sequoia reprogramable? I thought I one of my MDT's did new keys for sales a few days ago. I think it was 2006.

If you have one original key, there is a guy on e-bay that sells toyota keys and he has instructions how to program additional keys if you have at least one key.

NOPE, they didnt start the ability to re-seed sequoia until 2008

Anything with a SOLID BOX is RE-SEEDABLE
Anything with a Blank Box needs an ENGINE ECU
Anything with a Blank Box and (2) next to it (prius/Sequoia) needs a IMMOBILIZER ECU
