Default dvd install... dome lights dont work right

just put a rosen z10 drop down dvd in 2002 sequoia with sunroof. dont understand why but domelight function not working right. (off) works right, in (door) mode lights on dvd turn off when door opens then fades to on when other lights fade off. with all doors closed move switch to (on) lights are dim, move switch to (door) lights are bright. must have wires mixed up but dont know what to do. 3 wires from factorty domelight. one never hot, one always hot, one sometimes hot. with testlight on always and sometimes light fades as should. instructions say hook up domelight to always hot and ground. then hookup yellow wire to TIMED 12v+ to make domelight function like factory. thought that i did that but i guess not. someone PLEASE HELP ME im leaving for disneyworld with an 8 year old on a 16 hour trip on friday. need this fixed or risk dead battery. thank you all in advance

I haven't done any Rosen drop-downs,but is there a wiring diagram available that I can view? I haven't found a Z10-specific diagram on Rosen's site,it's either the A7 or A10. Both show yellow as a 12v constant

I install a lot of Advent/Audiovox units in Lexus SUVS and the domelight wiring has to be done differently,Toyotas usually have negative-switched domelight wiring. What was supposed to be wired to constant 12v connects to ground and originally ground to 12v constant. I'm guessing Rosen's "timed 12v" is the switched voltage of the factory domelight, this should be the "sometimes hot" wire you found.

Here's the Advent manual,read pages 11-12.

wow eddie, thanks so much for digging soooo deep to help me find the problem, i really appreciate it. i did figureout the prob last night, i called tech support for rosen and they told me that the yellow wire is constant 12V as you also stated, but is very decieving because they say hook that wire to TIMED 12V which i saw as the wire that loses voltage after 10 -15 seconds to fade the lights to off after door closes. what they meant by TIMED is some cars have a safety timer built in that will automatically turn off a domelight that was manually set to ON after a certain amount of time to prevent battery drain. they need to explain that better in the install instructions. the tech said the same thing and he gets lots of calls from people seeing it that same way. now i have a new problem which i hope was not caused by me wireing this wrong. i fixed the wireing last night and now everything is working as it should. i havent started or driven car since install and started it last night for first time and now my check engine light, VSC OFF, and VSC TRAK lights are all on, what happened. other that wireing it wrong and blowing the fuse of the domelight circuit when i cut the wires, nothing has changed. what do you think? thank you soooo much for everything. leaving for fla. on friday, need to fix before then

It means there is a problem in the engine performance system. Get the codes read or try to reset it by unplugging the battery. You might want to check for additional blown fuses, who knows what you might have done judging by your first post.

ya....pull the battery terminals off then check all your fuses. I am betting you blew something or shorted something when you were wiring....
