Default dealer brake job issue

we recently got a front brake job at the dealers. On and off since then my wife has been complaining about smelling something burning. tonite I too noticed the odor and thought I detected unusual heat from the wheels. Using a laser temperature gauge, both front brake rotors read about 200 degrees after returning from a 5 mile round trip. I jacked up the front and each wheel rotates about only about 1/4 turn with a good shove. I realize new pads may give off some odor, but is this disk temp and free wheel rotation out of the ordinary? thanks.

I don't know the exact temp the brakes should be but there shouldn't be any burning smell and the tires should spin freely and more than a quarter of a turn. They either installed the wrong pads or the calipers have froze.Take it back to the dealer before you cause more damage to the brake system.

You may have a warped or excessive run out on your rotor(s). When you spin your wheel it stops on the high spot on the rotor. Does it only/always stop at the same spot in relation to anything stationary on the front wheel? What is normal temp out of curiousty according to a/your dealer? Other things to check are lazy pistons due to an accumilation of brake dust debris around the piston seals, frozen pistons, and caliper slide pins not sliding and therefore not releasing from the rotors after the brakes have been engaged.

The dealer should have caught all of these possible problems. I would take it to a brake shop and let them check it.

There is something wrong have your dealer check them again. You paid for the brakes you should get what you paid for. Have the dealer let you show them the wheel not spinning freely when they put it on the lift. I'll bet the tech didn't clean the rust and corrosion off the pins that hold the brake pads on. This will keep the presure on the pads and make them drag or even stop the wheel. This will give the burning smell and the high temps.
