Default I have a question about power steering.

Hello, and yes I am a nubie,
I have a 2002 Sequoia Limited with a power steering whine. The fluid as far as I know has never been changed. Would this be the first step to fixing, and then looking at the power steering pump? The power is still good, but mostly it's the whine that has me concerned. I have read in another post of the proceedure, and it sounds easy. Please help.
Thanks,
Mike
