Default Ticking noise

Thought I would post my problem on this forum.

I was wondering if any of you have experienced a ticking noise from the front drivers side. It only starts doing this when the weather is damp or raining. Almost sounds like its coming from the shock. The noise doesnt seem to coincide with bumps in the road either. It sounds like a cable tapping against the firewall, although I'm fairly certain its not as I didnt see anything. Besides if thats what it was it would always do it. Any input greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you have the fuel injector ground ticking issue. It is discussed ad nauseum here. Bascially moving the injector rail ground wire to another point instead of the firewall. Takes 5 minutes. Completely gets rid of that noise.

Yep I've heard of this before but why does it only occur when its raining or wet? I know it sounds crazy but its true. I have verified this over and over and am at a complete loss as to why its happening. The local dealership thinks it could be a problem with the windshield clips. or an issue with the hood. Apparently there is a tsb out for the hood fix.

Interesting. That is a new one. That would mean it is probably not the injector issue.

Have you moved the ground wire? It literally takes five minutes. That is a short amount of time to rule something out and a large number of Sequoias have the injector tick.

Have you checked to see if your steering column boot is ripped? That is a 30 min fix and it lets in noise from the engine compartment. It may be water dripping on a heat shield or something. Changing that boot made my cabin sound like new again.

The ground wire I saw is only so long. Where do I move it to?

Yes, I remember what you mean. Mine reached to a mounting bolt for the ABS controller. That is a big square block with several metal brake line tubes coming out of it. I think there is one corner close enough to reach. Mine hasn't interfered with anything in 3 or 4 years.

Good Luck!

Well I finally figured it out. As it turns out the hood hinge on the drivers side was too tight. When I tried to loosen the hinge bolts they were so tight that when the nut broke loose I heard a poping sound. I thought my ratchet broke actually. Since then we have had rain on two occassions and While driving it was quiet as a mouse. I also washed the truck and drove with no ticking noise.
