Default Outside temp gauge sticks?

Over the last few months I've noticed that my overhead outside temp gauge will stick after about 45 minutes of driving. I have driven across South Dakota from east to west, and then back several times in the last few months. Today I left from the eastern side, dismal and rainy, temp gauge read 41 degrees. I arrived in the western side of the state 5 1/2 hours later, sun shining and nice, gauge still indicated 41 degrees. I saw a temp billboard as I arrived... 63 degrees. I know the gauge reads incorrectly for the first few minutes when you start the engine, but this is after it has settled in. Thoughts?
