Default Rear Brake Flies Apart

Well I got my 04 SeQ to an independent shop to do the brakes. They've done " thousands" of Toyotas. I get a call close to my pick-up time saying the mechanic encountered some problems. When doing the rear brakes he said that a pin and a spring went 'flying' during disassembly(parking brake) and so now he has to take the rear apart to get to the stuff ???? huh?
Have I ever had the parking brake worked on?"
I said no.
So they will get the parts and labor on their dime.
My question is..
Shouldn't the mechanic know if pins and springs may go flying? Will this affect that all too sensitive ABS/VSC Trac computer? Does this shop sound competent?

Help...

At times I've seen the e-brake shoes hang on the inside of the rotor pulling the shoes out causing the pins/springs that hold the shoes in place to fly off. The e-brake set up on the sequoias can be a mama at times. It wouldn't affect the abs ecu. He will be able to put it all back together with no other issues. All he will need to is just install the pins and springs back in place. The only problem is you don't have any ANY room to work on the e-brake. Sounds like he just didn't catch in time when the shoes hung up on the rotor. Shouldn't be no harm just extra repair time.

I can't imagine why they would need to take the rear (end?) apart.

Yes, the E-brake is a PIA to work on but I did it myself a few months ago because the vehicle was driven one too many times with the e-brake on. Just took some patience.

It's goofy the way the springs and wires are positioned but I guess it serves it's intended purpose.
