I have a 03 Sequioa SR5 4WD with 140k on it. I'm having some issues with the 4WD systems. I've always tried to drive in 4H a few times a month on wet pavement to excercise the 4WD system. Recently, I've started having issues while trying to shift into and out of 4WD. When I activate the system, I have to make a hard left or right hand turn in order to get everything to mesh up. While it is trying to mesh up, the center differential indicator flashes like it should, but the vehicle push to the right (almost like the front right brake is behind applied) and feels very sluggish. One I make a hard left or right hand turn, the system meshes up and drives fine.
So this morning, as I was backing out, I decided to shift into 4H (on wet roads) and see what happens. With the engine at idle and transmission in reverse, the systems activated with not issues in just a second or two....as it should.
Because I have to make a hard left or right hand turn to get the system to mesh, I'm thinking there might be an issue in the ADD, but am just wondering if anyone else has had this problem, or has any suggestions.
If you must test out your 4wd on pavement every once in a while, drive in a STRAIGHT line. Hard turns in 4wd will not help anything, especially on pavement where the wheels cannot spin out.

Sequoias have a center differential - you can drive them anywhere anytime in 4wd as long as you don't LOCK the center differential. Land Cruisers are always in 4wd, and use the same basic system.
Tires are all the same size, but not all same brand...but the fronts are a matched pair and the rears are a matched pair.
Tire diameter can vary greatly from brand to brand even though they state the same size, they need to be the same front to rear... A easy test to do is put the Sequoia on a lift (all 4 wheels off the ground) and engage 4wd on and off and if everything works normaly you found your problem
I have the same problem w/my '04 sequoia. I think I'm gonna go get my hammer and crawl up under the damn thing and beat on something. When in doubt, get the hammer out.
