Going on a long Expedition...what to do prior leaving.
Well, gang its time for a long family trip.
My 04 Sequoia is 2WD has about 73K on it right now. We plan on going down South Texas and across into Mexico border.
I will replaced all four tires this tomorrow. I've change the serpentine belt last July. Brakes and rotors brand new. Will do oil change 5-30W Synthetic blend(Valvoline) with OEM filter.
Should I change the rear diff yet? what about the front? My 04 is a 2wd, how do I know if it has LSD?...no not for smoking, lol.
Should I do coolant flush or bring it to the dealer? Anyone put RedLine water wetter in their radiator? does it cause water pump leak?
Re: Going on a long Expedition...what to do prior leaving.
if you have a 2wd, then i wouldn't worry about the front diff.
stay away from the voodoo chemicals. keep each system's fluid clean
and you won't need the chemicals. yspert

Make sure the coolant is good check all fluids to be filled to proper levels be sure not to over
fill them.Make sure all of your lights, and signalswork make sure the A/C works too you know check that it blows cold would not want to leave with out that make sure the spare tire is good to go also.Another is make sure you have a good battery if you have to replace it try an optima you cant go wrong with them other than that you should be good to go. Have a nice trip !
Re: Going on a long Expedition...what to do prior leaving.
Thanks guys!
I've just crawl under the car, damn, it does not have the front differential. All that I saw as the drive shaft exit from the tranny.
I found some cheap Synthetic Diff/gear oil from WalMart . They have two quart of 75-90 and two of 75-140. Should I just get it and mix them for the rear differential?
New Tires are in. New air filter and fresh Valvoline Synthetic blend.
Re: Going on a long Expedition...what to do prior leaving.
Of course it doesn't have a front differential, front driveshaft, or transfer case--it's a 2WD!
Don't mix the fluids, go to a REAL store and get the right fluid for it. If you haven't had any battery problems, don't bother with a new one. Get an Interstate or ACDelco if you have to.

Just got back. South Padre Island in TX was beautiful. We drove into Mexico, Metamoros, it was a big town. Fun, but the Swine thing still freaks me out. I ran 10 hours non-stop except for one time gas. It ran at least 21 mpg, wow!
My oil dip slight, very tiny amount. Coolant level stay even and the new tires did wonder. I might do Florida on the 4th.
