Default Replace CV boot or whole drive shaft

I have heard arguments on both sides now in regards to fixing a leaking CV boot. The dealer states he will simply replace the boot because it is less expensive and less work and at this point the joint is probably still good. I've had another mechanic state that he would need to take out the drive shaft anyway to replace the boot so he usually just goes to napa and gets a new axle and replaces the whole thing. Is there a reason to prefer one method over the other? It would not seem that the whole axle needs to be removed if just replacing the boot, unless it is a solid boot? Thanks

If it's not clicking, I'd keep the factory unit and put a new boot on it. The aftermarket units are much lower quality.

I would just put the boots on. You are better with the factory axle. Those NAPA and other auto stores are reman axles. The quality is not near Toyota. The axle has to come out to do the boots but the dealer knows how to do them. They are a pain if you are not familiar with how to change the boots.Thats why most garages want to put whole axle in.
