Default Chilton vs. Haynes Repair Manuals which is better?

Hello,

I recently purchased an 06 Sequoia Limited....I usually get a repair manual for the vehicles I own.

Is one better than the other? I have bought both in the past for different rides, just thought I would check the popular vote.

Thanks in advance....

Neither, go to Helm Inc and get the factory manual. Chiltons and Haynes are useful as emergency toilet paper, but a last resort of course. That paper will chafe. Any other use for those books would be worse than no manual.

It's a good bit more expensive, but as you do more and more on your vehicle, you'll really come to appreciate a real manual. We have a ton of Bentley manuals (best aftermarket books IMO) but they don't get detailed in the overhaul of components like many factory manuals do.

Haynes manual for a 2006 Sequoia = $26, Helm Inc = $210. If you're like me and only will undertake "light" mechanical repairs (brakes, fluid changes, water pumps, etc.) then the Haynes is more than adequate. Don't get me wrong Helm's reprints of the factory manuals are excellent (I have one for another car I own) but expensive and way more more detailed than most "shadetree" mechanics need.

Get a Haynes or Chilton repair manual and then buy the factory CD repair manual online. Or just get factory CD repair manual.
