Default Gold Emblems Peeling

I bought a used 04 Sequoia with the Gold Emblems . I've noticed that ( I presume ) the clear coat on top the Gold has started to chip and peel . This is happening to all the emblems but more so on the rear ones . Has anyone else had this happen to theirs ? I am surprised being only 5 years old that this is happening already . And has anyone repaired theirs ? If so what did you do ? I suppose I could re-clear coat them with some spray clear coat but am curious if anyone else has done this ?

Gregg the gold badges on my '03 are doing the same thing. For now its just the ones on the rear hatch. I haven't had time to mess with them yet but I do have some clear ploy to spray on them to bring back their luster. A new set last time I checked was $300 or $400.

I suppose I can take a hair dryer to soften the glue to remove them ,,assuming they are attatched with adhesive . Clean them up and spray them . 3-4 hundred dollars is a little steep for something that is just going to do it again in the near future . Just sold my 12 year old BMW Z3 which had chrome emblems and they were in perfect condition . Maybe I should take off the Toyota emblems and replace them with BMW emblems ,,,lol. My SUV is in really pristine condition as far as paint and scratches . So I guess the emblems stand out with being in such bad condition .

Take a piece of fishing line and pull that between the emblem and the body panel. That should get the emblems off without damaging them or your paint. Then you will need some adhesive remover. I would imagine an auto parts shop or better yet an auto body/paint supply house of your choice will have that and the adhesive to reattach the emblem. That is how I intend to do mine when they make it that far up on my list of things to do. Good luck. I'd be curious as to how yours turns out when you finish.
