Default is it OK to use 2 different tire sizes?

my front wheels are worn. I was wondering if I can get 265/70/17 and stick them in the rear & move the rear wheels to front. eventually I want to goto 265/70/17 all around (stock is 265/65/17), but don't have the $ to do it all at once, and my rears are still good.

Generally not a good idea. Could vary with manufacturer, but I'm guessing they might not be close to the same height. Since your Sequoia is 2wd, you would probably be fine as long as the matching tires are on the same axle. Which sound like thats what your wanting to do. If it were 4wd, I wouldn't do it.

I would say your safe as long as you keep the same size on each axle . If you were driving a 4WD I would advise against it . And if your using different manufacture or type of tires your going to get different handleing and manuvering charactures which could be somewhat unsafe . Here is a tire size calculator you can run to see the size differences .

Tire size calculator.

The different size tires may be picked up by the ABS and VSC systems, causing them to react.
The allowable difference may be less then the normal tread height (3/8") before systems kick in.

Since the 70% tires measure a good 1" greater in diameter and around 3" greater in circumference, you can't mix tires. The computers would go nuts. Considering the propensity for VSC instability in these trucks, it makes the idea even worse. The spare tire is full-size for a reason.

I guess what we need to know is if his 2WD Sequoia has the VSC? I wouldn't think it would, but if it does the above mention of VSC computer not liking it might apply.
