Default 2006 Sequoia Rear Hatch Leaking

I noticed water in the back of my 2006 Sequoia. I took it to the local dealler and they could not find anything. I decided to sit in my driveway with the hose spraying on the back of the Sequoia and took the entire back interior apart to watch where the water came in. I found a gasket seal on the hatch was not seated right and thought I had solved the problem.

Recently, I had moisture in the carpet again and I am at a loss. The dealer is basically useless. Does anyone have any thoughts as to where the problem could be.

you might look at that rear hatch door seal . When you open the rear tailgate you can see the seal all around that liftgate . Maybe inspect to see if there are any tears in it . It goes all around that liftgate I think . Good Luck and let us know what you find out .

I had the same problem on my '04. Mine was caused by the satellite radio antennae wire going across the rear hatch seal. I cut a slit in the base of the seal and routed the wire thru it that way. Solved the problem.

Make sure you don't have any wires or anything getting between the hatch seal and the hatch itself. If that's not it, then buy a new seal and install yourself. Easy to do.

I also had the same problem in my 2005 SR5. The issue ended up being the wiring harness gasket that passes through the top of the body on the driver's side of the vehicle in the rear. I am sure I am not using the correct technical terms but there is a white oval "keeper" made out of plastic that snaps into the body and holds the gasket down. It somehow got cracked. I had to look closely but you could see a tiny gap between the rubber gasket and the body. I could get it to leak on demand by pouring water over the area. Eventually it would leak through to the rear of the vehicle. Of course they don't sell the plastic piece so I had to buy the whole harness which I think ran about $250. I am guessing you can also use silicon caulk and seal it up but since the vehicle is relatively new to me I didn't want to hack it up too much yet.
