1Gen-SequoiaGeneral discussion forum for the first generation 2001 to 2007 Toyota Sequoia.
This is a discussion thread titled "Anybody installed back-up camera ?", within the 1Gen-Sequoia forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
This is something I definitely want to install after my wallet fattens up a bit.
Audiovox makes a rear camera system with the screen built into the rear view mirror. This would probaby be my first choice. The Audiovox site wasn't working properly when I checked it but I found another site that shows it:
i've seen both of Stargazer's recommendation at shows and both are very cool. is the 6-7" LCD screen your only option? also, are you going to use it for dvd viewing as well? the only reason why i ask is if it's just for your rear view then i'd opt for a smaller LCD like the one the hitchcam uses and mount it to the left of your rearview mirror so you could use both while backing up.
btw, if you want to see a sequoia with the LCD/rearview option take a look at my WWW.

I installed a back-up camera couple months ago on my Seq. I have the Kenwood Nav. and have the back-up camera option. I mounted the camera inside the vehicle aiming to my rear blind spot when reversing my Seq. It is a simple installation. My only draw back is that the camera I bought doesn't have the night vision capablilities.
I also bought a cheap-o wireless camera at X10, but alas, it's TOO cheap,
so I'm looking at a wire-ful camera, just need one with wide-angle lens.
X10 uses CMOS camera chips and I think CCD is appropriate here, esp in low light conditions. I expect to be able to find a decent CCD camera for <$150.
I'm looking at strapping the LCD panel to my sun visor or putting it on one of the many sunglasses container drop-downs.

LOL
I have the Pioneer AVH-P7500DVD head unit which has a dedicated input for a rearview camera. I plan on getting a top notch rearview cam installed sometime next year.
I forget the model but a rearview mirror/ monitor by SAVV has been showing up on ebay. Seems to go for about $220. Something for us cheapskates to consider. -pg
I installed the Pioneer Nav Sys 910 which comes with the AVH-P6500DVD head unit which also has its own input for a rear cam. Almost same unit as MAHD. What a sweet hook-up. Worth a look see. I purchased at www.savinglots.com
I was looking around for backup cams and I came across this one: http://www.millionbuy.com/crisv5600.html. Has anyone given this a try yet? What ya think about it?
I picked up a wideview camera with night vision on ebay for about $40. Works great during the day. At night it's not so sharp, but it works well. I mounted it on a small braket and used a couple of self tapping screws and put it on the roof (tapped into the plastic) INSIDE the rear window aiming back and down. I didn't want to depend on being in reverse to use it so I hard wired the power right to the fuse panel, but I put a switch in so I could I turn the camera on at will - that way I could use it as a rear-view mirror even on the highway. I'm running the signal to an in-dash 7" widescreen dvd player that has a camera input.

At night it's not so sharp, but it works pretty well when your reverse lights are on for things within 6 feet. I debated having it outside, but I'm in Canada and snow and slush coat my rear window too often. This way, if I really need to see behind me, I can just roll the window down 3 inches while I'm trying to park and it's crystal clear. (Or I can just use the windshield washer/wiper on the back glass. The camera never gets dirty.) I installed a backup camera on my 07 Sequoia. I removed the lock from the back door and mounted it in that hole. The lock sits in a spare parts bin in my garage. I don't need a key to open the back, just use the FOB. The camera is inside the metal and the lens peeks out through the hole. It is something nobody will notice/steal. The drawback is the sun shines on it when you back toward the sun and gives a bright line. If I were to do this again, I would note the location of the camera in new Tundra trucks (visit your showroom, its worth a look.) and take a hint from that. They are under the lip of the opening of the latch, and they point down, not straight back like mine. That gives less sun on the lens, and perhaps a better look at the trailer hitch.
has anyone installed their camera up top where the spoiler or on the spoiler? i have the bec-106 and installed it under the lip where the liscense plate is at but am worried someone might just snatch that thing so im contemplating puting it up on the roof under the spoiler or on the spoiler. only problem is I dont know where to rung the wires and want to hide the wires as much as possible. anyone have the bec 106 and installed it up there? how and where did you run the wires?
