    Default 2006 Air conditioner problem

We just bought a new to us sequoia that a/c wasnt working when we bought it, we got a great deal on it and we took it to a local shop, they found a fitting on the compressor that was loose and tightened it and put a vaccum and recharged the air, Blew ice cold for about 5 days, now it will start up only blowing cool, not cold and has to be run on high, but if you turn the rear air on in a matter of minutes it starts blowing ice cold again? Then after 15minutes or so it will fade away and you have to turn off the rear air and wait and turn it back on? Im so confused? Im thinking there is a small leak somewhere and when turning on the rear air it kind of primes the system a little to blow cold for awhile ? Any ideas ? Thanks in advance!

I would take it back to the shop and have them evacuate the system again and they will be able to tell you if the refrigerant was low again. Meaning you have a leak. If you do have a leak and they can not detect it. It is just a good idea to have them change out the rest of the seals and service port valve seals. Of course this costs $ and I would be sure to trust that my mechanic would actually change out all the seals and not get lazy and forget or miss one. I am not too sure about any seals for the rear a/c unit. That would probably be an addition cost to get access to those. But it sounds like you have a leak and they will probably be able to find it through the florescent light test or with a refrigerant detector device. Good Luck.

I havent had a chance to take it back to the shop yet but checked the low pressure line yesterday with my gauge and looks like it still has about 37-38 lbs of refridgerent? It was in the normal range on the gauge, but it was blowing out hot air exactly when i was checking it? So im not sure if i have a leak or not now ?

Did you get the low side pressure of 37 psi with the engine RPM at 1500 and the front and rear A/C on Max Cool? Also, were all windows down, and the unit set on recirculate? Also, was the ambient temperature at the A/C return intake at 85 degrees or higher?

    These are all important variables.

all the variables you mentioned were in place, Now im second guessing my memory on the pressure reading on the gauge, ive slept a few nights since i tested it But i was poking around and looking at all the lines and found some that are running from the condensor that look like they have had oil poured on them..... So i think i have found my leak, its actually in the middle of the line where its wet not around a connection so im kind of confused how it would leak there but regardless im making some progress figuring this thing out.
