I had my 2001 SEQ serviced yesterday at a dealership near me and asked the service manager to program my SEQ so that when I put the trans in DRIVE, the doors will lock automatically. You know what he told me afterward? He said it cannot be done on a 2001 SEQ !!
I read in the forum here before that these programming can be done. Can anyone share that information with me so I can go back to prove him wrong?
Thanks in advance...
This function is the Auto Door Locking function. According to my notes, on a 2001 Sequoia, the dealer must perform the programming using a hand-held tester plugged into the OBDII port.
I had asked the same thing, the best they said they could do is program the brake to activate the door locks upon release after the car goes into gear.
Here is the info that I had when I took mine into the dealer, it took them a while to get it done, as it was the first time to do it:
Change the following in programming via the OBDII system. (see page 144 of "New Car Features", book part number is NCF196U). It seems that most of these options are already set this way, but if you could check each one for the proper setting:
1. For Wireless door locks
a. wireless operation - YES/NO
b. Door Ajar Beeper - ON/OFF
c. Time until Auto Lock - 30sec/60sec
d. 2-step unlocking - ON/OFF
e. Interior light function - ON/OFF
f. Panic alarm - ON/OFF
g. Back window - Push 1x/Push 1x(0.8sec min)/Push twice/OFF
2. Door Locks
a. Speed sensitive locking - ON/OFF
b. Shift and brake release Linked autolock - ON/OFF
c. 2-step unlock - ON/OFF
3. Illuminated Entry
a. Interior lights when doors unlocked - ON/OFF
b. Interior light time - 7.5/15/30 sec
4. Power windows
a. Key-linked Open operation - ON/OFF
b. Key-linked Close operation - ON/OFF
5. Back window
a. Key-linked open - ON/OFF
b. Key-linked close - ON/OFF
I had both 2A and 2B turned ON. Works well, as normally the 2B will catch it most of the time, but if you drop someone off and then take off again then 2A will activate if you did not put it in park.
One side note that I HATE is that the doors do not either auto-unlock when you shut the car off (like on my old RAV4) or you can not open the door until you "unlock" the doors (except for the drivers side).
I wish you could open them when the door is locked as on the drivers side but on all the doors. (like most american branded cars) Because when it is dark and there are others in the car they cant seem to get the door open until you unlock it for them.
When I first purchased my sequoia I noticed that the doors would automatically lock and arm the alarm by itself. Does anyone know how to activate this feature again?
There's a couple of functions I've noted months after purchasing mine, one about a month ago.... I've had it 6 months.
1. If you park the truck get out of it close the door and hit the unlock button, the car will automatically "arm" itself or lock. It isn't immediate and I haven't the patience to stand around and time it but there is a rather long delay before they lock automatically. I noted this in particualr because I would park in the garage and hit the key fob button to unlock the rear door to retieve something. When I would come back later the doors would be locked, on a couple of occasions I actually saw the truck lock itself. It then became apparent that was another way the key could become locked inside.
2. When you remove the key from the ignition with the headlamps on and lock the car with the key fob, the lights remain on for something like 20 seconds (this is programmable, the time delay). If you hit the ket fob lock again, it will turn off the headlights before the time delay.
3. Apply the parking brake and start the engine, the day-time-running lights won't come on until after the parking brake it removed.

I think you'll find that the time to lock the doors is about 30 seconds. When you unlock the vehicle, but none of the doors are opened, the vehicle will lock itself automatically after 30 seconds. Maybe it is a security thing for accidentally unlocking the vehicle and "makes sense" to me.
On the tundra (with the factory alarm) this is the case, might be similar on the Sequoia. I don't think the time is adjustable.
Hmmmm. Seems that the rear door isn't protected (or is it window?) as that should have trigged a "door open" unless there is a distinction between doors and "rear door".
You got it... I don't think the lock delay is programable either. On the rear door I think I didn't elaborate enough. I'd get out of the truck, remember something in the backseat, unlock the doors and then return to get whatever it was in the backseat (my kid.... j/k hehe), the doors would be locked.
At any rate, I also failed to mention that I've eliminated this by using the door button rather than the key fob to unlock the doors. It also did occur to me that it was a saftey feature to re-lock in case of accidental unlocking.... I've done it before and I'm suprised at the range of the transmitter.
I have my Seq set to automatically lock when it hits 10mph or so but woud like it to unlock when I put it in park or turn the car off. Can this be done because it is getting frustrating for my passengers to try and find the unlock button in the dark. Thanks
