i was also thinking if you could get someone like One Track Mind in Encinitas to make a couple of boxes since they probably have the dimensions already from Cayne Gayle's ride. just a thought!

Unhappy JL's response

Absolutely no luck with JL Audio. They seemed to have the attitude like, we'll make it, when we make it. Really dissapointing, but oh well. They said at this point they don't even know if they will plan on making them. So what I am planning to do now, is takes Simias' advice going to my local custom shop. They are a really high end place that does alot of the LA sports and Movie stars cars vehicles and see if they would be interested in producing them for us. Using either a JL or Kicker Solobaric sub. One good thing about working with them is that they sell me everything at wholesale, so we all could get a break on pricing, at least I hope so. Let me know whose else is on board so I can go to them with numbers.

Question Questions.....

My stereo guys are ready to start the box's, however he is suggesting that we design the box using a JL Audio JW-0 10 inch. I was originally thinking JW-3, but he says that using a JW-0 will be more universal, and will require less wattage in most systems, cost cheaper initially, and in the long run when you get into upgrading speakers and amp and other stuff, you don't have to buy higher wattage amps and so on and so forth. What do you guys think? JW-0 or JW-3 for the speaker. We have to design the box according to the speaker we choose, there is no turning back once they make the mold. So far we are doing a fiberglass mold, that will be carpeted to color match the floor carpet color. (Once production is ready, they will be offerered in factory tan or gray made to order) The box will be completely drop in, no cutting any factory pieces. You will probably have to drill two screws from the inside of the box down into your storage compartment to secure the box into place. However once you remove the box you will still be able to use the storage space and put the panel back on hiding the screw holes, so no big deal. We are making them as bolt-on and hassle free as possible. They will stick only as far as the rear seats recline, and go back, so they won't interfere with the seats, and will go as high as the rear cover for those who have them. And you will still be able to keep the rear power outlet in the back. So, once we decide on the speaker choice, I will have the prices for you guys on Monday. So we have the weekend to decide, let me know, and I will get the prices posted.

Jesse

actually no, it won't look like that. if we go with that type of design there will have to be cutting of the storage comparment in order to get the proper depth and airspace for the JL's. The box design we are thinking of doing will protrude out a little from the compartment, in order to get airspace and depth. But it will slide perfectly into the storage compartment. Like I said though, it will only stick out a few inches, prolly as far out as your rear seats recline, no more, and only be as high as the compartment themselves. Is that more clear? I checked with my cousin on the TRD one, and he confirmed that they had to cut behind the storage compartment to flush mount the speaker. I don't want to have to do that. I want them to be drop in, with as little as modification as possible.

shoot...i kinda figured that you would have to do some cutting in order to get it flush. i noticed that Cayne Gayle's had a full box that was behind the panel, so i knew that a drop in wouldn't have enough air space. i guess i'm out bro. i want it to be flush, just because of looks and when snowboarding season starts i need every inch of space back there to carry like 8 snowboards, a couple of snowblades and a grip of gear. maybe my mind will change when i see final product. thanks again!

Smile UPDATE on Sequoia Sub Boxes....

Ok, here's a picture of what the boxes will look like. All that is left at this point is color match the vinyl wrap. The boxes are almost 100% drop in. Only mod you will have to do your storage is to drill two holes, one for the mounting bolt, and one to run the speaker wire out. Other than that you will not have much to do when installing these. Nice thing is when you're ready to remove the box, all the holes will be covered back up by the factory storage cover, so you'll never be able to tell that there was a box there in the first place. The boxes are designed for a 10" JL Audio W3. There will be a metal speaker grill to cover the woofer that will be covered by a color matched grill cloth. Tell me what you think. For those of you interested, they haven't told me the exact price for a group buy yet, but if you like what you see let me know so I can tell them an idea of how many they may be looking at. Remember, the more buyers we have, the cheaper it will be. So once again, spread the word to all Sequoia owners! Link everyone you know to this thread. I should have the finished product by middle of next week. Also, for those of you that have the gray interior, would one of you be interested in sending me the storage panel so that they can get the vinyl color matched? I'm assuming your gonna order the box if you send the panel, when your box is ready i'll send back the panel with the box. I'll have the prices when the final product is done. Leave feedback guys please!
