Hey guys,
I'm not too sure about the differences in the different subs and I haven't had time to look it up yet so I thought I would ask y'all. I have a JL 10W4, will that work in the proposed enclosure? If noone knows, I'm sure I can find the info somewhere online.
I would be interested in buying one if it would work with my current subs and the price is right.
I looked up the dimensions for the 10W3 and 10W4 on the JL website and it appears that the 10W4 will fit, The only dimensional difference appears to be the depth of the subs and the W4 is not as deep as the W3, so it should be fine. Hopefully the hole pattern is the same, but if not, I'll just have to break out the drill.
I'm very interested to see what the pricing is gonna be. Do you even have any guesses on a range that the price might fall in?
Hey guys, I've been really busy this week, and wasn't able to get to my stereo guys until last night. So they were able to do a final test fit last night, but won't be able to make the first mold till this weekend. We're still trying to figure our final costs on materials, so pricing should be ready by middle of next week. Sorry for the delay, but from what I saw last night, the wait will be worth it.
I've been to busy again to get to my stereo guys, so they said they will come to JAOS today and do the final fit today. I'll let you know tonight how it went.
Installing a CD Changer with Standard Sequoia Head Unit
I have a 2002 Sequoia with the standard cd/cassette amfm head unit.
Crutchfield tells me that a Panasonic CX-DP88 8 disk changer along with a Panasonic/Toyota cable will connect to the OEM Toyota head unit. The buttons on the oem head unit can then control the changer.
Questions:
1) Will I need to pull out the oem head unit to plug in the control cable to changer ? If so, is this very involved? Any directions posted anywhere?
2) Where's the optimum place to mount a cd changer ? I was thinking about the compartment in the rear drivers side.
I installed a 10-disk changer in my 2001 SR5. It's the FM-modulator type, so I have to control it with it's own unit (I wish I had the one you're getting). However, I can answer two of your questions.
Mine fit perfectly in the bin at the back on the driver's side. In fact, I used some bubble wrap and the belt that is there from the factory (?!) to secure it. I ran the cable forward from the same compartment all the way to the rear door (keeping inside the plastic trim). Once at the door, I removed the sill guards and got it all the way to the dash completely out of sight.
I removed the radio from the dash to do the hookups, and I don't remember that it was very hard. I did test it before putting it all together, though! Anyway, don't be afraid of it.
Thks Speed25 - I'm considering installing either in the same spot or perhaps under the front passenger seat.
Looks to me like the the factory head unit is accessable by removing the two screws located on the top side (inside) center A/C vents. Once the center plate is removed I guess it is no sweat to get the radio out ?
It's my understanding that the factory head unit that had a "CD" button are compatable with Panasonic CD Changers with an adapter cable.
Hearing from Tweeter here in houston that a new cable is coming out that will allow the facory head unit to control an Alpine changer- though no one has in stock.
I have a Tundra with the OEM 3-in-1 and I ended up adding the Panasonic CX-DP88 using a Blitsafe "interface" about a year or so ago. I mounted mine under the front passenger seat where it fit prefectly and it's been working flawlessly since I installed it. Also, when I was doin gmy research a year or so ago, there were already numerous interface cables for hooking up the Toyota head unit to aftermarket CD changers. I seem to remember one for use with an Alpine changer, but the brand name escapes me.
Just so you're aware, there are additional screws on the center panel. On the Tundra anyway, you have to remove the three ventilation control knobs to get access the the extra screws. I know how frustrating it can be to try and pull something apart and not be able to do it. I replaced the stereo on a family member's Previa and that was quite the cchallenge. Awhile back I talked with another member installing a changer with a Sequoia and while I seem to remember the changer fiting under the passenger seat, it was a tighter fit due to the ventilation ducting for the rear passengers.
Anyway, if you're interested, let me know via a PM or e-mail and I'll be happy to share my Tundra installation details with you.
for the SQ (at least on mine, anyway), all you need to unscrew are the 2 crews on the vents. Once off, just pull on the black surrounds (gently), and the whole assembly pops off. EZ access to the radio at that point. Hope this helps.
I currently have the single disc JBL (stock SR5 Seq equip w/6 spkrs) and am considering alternatives as well. One thing mentioned in another thread is that guys who buy the Sequoia w/the JBL 6-disc players and replace them with aftermarket heads might be interested in selling their JBLs.
Sounds logical. Question: Does anyone know of issues with swapping the single-disc head (which powers 6 spkrs) for the 6-disc head which powers 10 - I think - spkrs? I've read where the 6-disc unit has 2 built-in amps and I wonder if that would matter were it to be installed w/my stock spkrs. And I wonder if there are other things to be considered as well.
I like the stock look and I'll go w/the Panasonic/interface cable alternative to keep the look. However, replacing my HU w/the other one might work and save room under my seat for a DVD player, etc.
Coming in late on this thread but it was my understanding that JL was coming out with the Sequoia sub-woofer enclosure soon. They had shown a prototype at the CES in a for real Sequoia and it looked great. But as someone had indicated, JL is non-commital to time-frames as I had originally heard March intro for the box..
Both me and my stereo guy were on holiday vacation last week. However we did do a final fit on the box that will be used to create the mold for the final product. They told me this morning that a final product will be ready by the end of this week. So let's keep our fingers crossed. As soon as it is in my hands, I will post the pics.
