Wanted to bring this back up to the top.
JAOS - Sounds like you're busy, sorry to hear that. Thanks for keeping us posted when you hear info. Take care, Boone
As I stated some months ago, the rear speakers are 2 ohm, very efficient speakers and very, very little energy is going to them. Toyota agrees that the rear speaker output is low, but that is the way it is, according to them. Easy fix: the output is so low that it can be directly fed into the low level inputs of a really good amp. ( I have a 250W/Channel) THEN, you can hear the rear speakers very well! I do not know of anything but an amp that will cure this factory installed problem. But cure it, it does.. I also replaced the rear speakers with the best level JL's which also gives decent base. Transforms the Sequoia into a fairly decent sound with nary a change to the head unit, looks, operations.. Just fairly musical, decent full range music..

I have an '02 SR5 with single disc CD player. Is it amped the same way the 6-disc player is amped? ie., I've read that the 6 disc has two built-in amps, albeit underpowered ones. I'm thinking of swapping my single disc for a 6-disc and i'm wondering if I need an aftermarket amp for the rears if I in fact swap (I definitely need it w/my single disc HU).
Are JL speakers the same as JBLs? Georgeseq, I'd appreciate your posting which speakers, ie, model #s, you bought that you seem so happy with.
6 speaker model has 1 amp, 10 speaker models have 2 amps. More info and electrical diagrams available in the Audio/Video & Security FAQ in the "Garage"
JL is not JBL. JL is a higher end aftermarket manufacturer like Boston, etc. High quality, fairly musical, industrial power handling capabilities, reasonable cost. Available at better stero installers. I cannot remember the exact co-ax 6 inch model, but they have 3 different levels and I got the mid-level. JL displayed a beauty sub-base installation at the CES in a Toyota Sequoia, to be out in February.. Apparently JL is pretty consistent in not meeting dates and nothing is even close on this setup at this point..

guys and gals, sorry this is taking so long...my stereo guy is getting married, and this project has had to take a back seat to his current priorities. I've been really patient with him and have been trying to work with him on this little project. He is telling me another week and a half and he will have the final product. Also, I have another project I am working on, look for a new post.
TSB stands for Technical Service Bulletin. It is a document issued to Toyota Service departments from Toyota Corp. Each TSB addresses a service item and tells how to correct the problem and whether it is covered under warranty or not.
You should just be able to complain to your service manager about the problem and they should refer to the TSB to fix it. If they pretend there is no problem or they don't know what to do, you can refer them to this TSB number.
There are currently about 32 TSBs for the Sequoia.
