Question Can you turn off running daytime head lights?

Any way of turning off your daytime running lamps so I can put in some new zenon bulbs. I don't want to buy zenon bulbs and have them on all the time.

Yes, there are instructions on how to disable the DRL's in the Electronics FAQ in the "Garage" Lighting & Electronics forum, also there is a TSB in the General Information forum, but it does not specifically cover the Sequoia.

I ran into the same problem a few months ago.
I have a set of Philips HID lights that I tried to install but with the DRL activated they are not ON all the time, they actually STROBE due to the small amount of current flowing through the wiring.
So now they are a "project" of mine.

Glenn is correct!
The instruction that he refers to in the Electronics FAQ does not cover the Sequoia.
I tried the "directions" for most applications and it did not work properly.

When I disconnected what seems to be the "relay" that connects the DRL's my Daytimes did turn OFF! But I also lost power to my Driver Side Fog Lamp.
Then again I have a 2001 SR5 with LTD foglights self installed.
So maybe the "set-up" I am using is not compatible with the DRL disconnection?

Talked with my salesman today. He said that the Toyota mechanics have a switch they will jerry rig in on the side.

The switch that Toyota will install, will it be inside driver's compartment (where you can turn it on or off while driving?) or under the hood - only to be used when you change the light bulbs?

It would be nice for me to turn the DRL off, while waiting for the kids to come out of school with the car running.

This can be done easily!!!
1. Turn the Sequoia off and remove the key.
2. Step on the Parking Break
3. Insert the key and turn on the Sequoia.
The DRL lights will be OFF until you release the parking brake!
You can have the Seq. on with the A/C Blowing and radio playing while you wait for the kids!

Interesting thing. I was in a new Camry today and on the light stalk there is a position that says DRL OFF. Sure enough, leaving it set there disables the DRL.

Sidwin and Stargazer- Thanks for the info on disconnecting the DRL's. I have disabled them on other vehicles by locating and removing the appropriate fuse. Amazingly on the Seq they still operate with the fuse removed!

I disconnected the connector next to the battery and that did the trick. Thanks again.

Default Downside to disconnecting the DRL's....

I learned tonight that there is a downside to disconnecting the DRL's by unplugging the white connector between the battery and the fender: If you leave your lights on after shutting down the vehicle you will not get the audible warning that alerts you to the lights being left on.

I suppose its not critical but good to be aware of!

Hmm...that's strange, I never realized that. But when I leave my lights on, I can see that they're on.

Actually, I have the auto lights off too and that's saved my butt lots of times. I'm glad that it works whether the headlamps are switched to auto or not.

AHHH! Finally a deffinitive answer. I think I'll throw a small toggle in there to interrupt the ground side. This way, if for some reason I wanted to run the DRLs it will be a flip of a switch from the Drivers seat.

Thank you for the pics Stargazer!
