Question back door latch problem

I was installing a rear view camera and had the license plate assembly off the car. As I was taking it off the car the cable disconnected from the back door latch and now I'm not sure exactly how is supposed to go back together.

Is this correct? (picture) (note how the ball doesn't rest in the mechanism that lifts it to open the door. because of this, the latch doesn't disengage properly)

Thanks in advance,
Steve

Default solved

The cable was routed correctly. The pin that the spring pivots about is riveted into the handle (in the picture the pin is the shiny silver part in the middle.) The rivet failed causing the pivot point to drop down (thereby not pulling the ball far enough to release the latch.) I installed a new rear hatch handle and all is well. (I was told that the rear hatch handle is a very common failure point and that the part is common across several Lexus and Toyota suvs.) The part is obviously very weakly constructed. I wouldn't be surprised to be replacing it again in a few years. I also noticed that the rear hatch window was wearing against the harness that goes to the driver tail light as it traveled down the track. Not impressive for it to come from the factory that way!

Well, I seem to have a similar problem with my 2005 Sequoia as well (only 200 miles on it). I have to pull the rear latch release twice in succession in order to get it open. It doesn't work with only one pull. Headed to the dealer, unfortunately. Very frustrating for a loyal Toyota owner.
