I was on my way out this morning so didnt have time to really check it good enough, did it again this afternoon and the light went off by itself after few seconds, I checked all the switches, lights, windows etc........and all were working fine, just to be sure, I reconnect the plug and sure enough, the DRL came right on, unplugged it, its off..........gona check the auto light tonite and even if it doesnt work, dont bother me much cuz I rarely use it anyway.......
No there are no known adverse affects of removing the resistor, as all it does is allow voltage to flow to the low beams when the headlights are not on.
The full automatic functions still work fine. I can get some pics posted later today....
Well I just got back this morning fom getting my oil changed at the dealership. I asked the mechanics directly if they could disable my DRLs and they pretty much told me the same thing about it being illegal nad that they weren't sure if it was legal blah blah blah yaddah yaddah yaddah! I even went as far as the bribery thing and still no go. One of then DID mention something about finding the right wire and installing a toggle switch which was mentioned by another member on this board.
How could Toyota make a $40+ vehicle with no DRL off/on switch BUT at the same time make this DRL off/on available on a lesser model (2002 Camry)?
On the same note, why did Toyota make a Navigational system available on a lesser vehicle (Matrix,Camry) and not on a full-sized fully loaded Limited Seqouia?
And last but not least, why in the world did they put those small a$$ headrests up front but put the big headrests for the middle row seats? This list can go on and on but the bottom line is that I am satisfied with my truck even though the engineers and designers need to think a littlt more logically!
The hardest part was trying to disconnect the resistor pack (gray connector). It took me nearly five minutes trying to disconnect it.Then I wised up and got a screw driver to push the little tab instead of trying to be the Incredible Hulk.
Altogether it took me a little over 10 minutes to complete due to my small oversight. Next step will be the HIDs.
Thanks to this forum, I also got my DRL's disabled. It really is simple and it just took less than 5 minutes to do. Just unplug the grey connector found on the right side of the battery and your set. I used a screw driver to push the tab of the resistor just as MAHD suggested. It is also easy to put it back on if ever you need it. No need to worry about wearing out our HID lights.
I don't know if you read my pevious posts but I mentioned that the service guys at the dealer were really no help at all but all of my frustration has dissipated now that I was able to do it myself in under 10 minutes.
My opinion of DRL's as a safety item. There not. When they first came out it was something different. It was something that called your attention the the vehicle that had them. As more and more vehicles come out with DRL's they will all be the same and no one will pay any attention to them. I dont want them. There is a down to DRL"s. When I first got my van I backed out of my garage and drove for several miles before I realized I was driving with my DRL's. I had headlights but no tail lights. I took a minute or two to figure out why I didnt have any dash lights. I will save my money if I have a choice. ---Buzzard
Folks the Daytime Running Lights Resistor connection is just to the right of the battery against the fender wall. It is gray connector, identified as D1 on this > DIAGRAM
For those of you that had the HID Plus installed, I have a few questions:
* How did you run the battery terminal wire from the passenger side over to the battery? I looked at it yesterday, and doesnt look like its long enough to make it over.
* Did you (supposed to?) connect the two battery terminal wires under the the existing cable on the positvie side of the battery?
* Anyone has any ideas on the spot for the ballasts and relays on both side?
Appreciated any information provided. Just want to make sure before the installation or have I missed something?
Frank I placed my ballast and relay in pretty much the same spot as Joe's(see Joe's pics). BUT on the driver side I placed my ballast LOW on the side wall right next to the battery. You WILL have to REMOVE the battery in order to do this. I finally have both ballasts and relays installed and connected to the HIDs which are in place. It took me a little over two hours to do but I'm still not finished because I do not know if I should connect the brown coupler to the black coupler on the HIDs.
Does anyone know if I'm supposed to connect the brown OEM coupler to the black coupler on the HIDs? Also,do I connect the negative wire to the negative terminal of the battey OR does that wire get grounded?
I find the instructions a little confusing so I'll ask the dumb questions to be on the safe side.
