Angry Dealer....DRL Disable

I just called my dealership to get my DRL's disabled and I was told that they can't do that because it's against the law! By law they can't disable my daytime running lamps.

Does anyone know FOR SURE how to disable the DRL? PLEEEAASE!

I have a related (possibly dumb) question. If my Sequoia is ordered without the DRL option, is it possible to get them enabled? Or is that also illegal? Or does the DRL option involve different lighting equipment?

Sounds like someone is blowing smoke up your a$$ .

If it's against the law, why is there a TSB for disabling the Tundra DRL's ???

I'd check around...someone has to know how to do it!

Good luck,
Andy

The "disconnecting some gray terminal" does not work on a Sequoia, that was part of one of the methods for a Tundra.

Although a mod was documented for the Tundra and there is a TSB showing how to do it on a 2000 Tundra, no one has documented a mod and there is no TSB identifying a process for the Sequoia.

The electrical diagrams for the Sequoia Headlights w/DRL's are posted in the "Garage" Lighting & Electronics forum. From reviewing the diagrams it should be possible and may even be simple, however it would take some experimentation by a Sequoia owner to verify a method.

I guess when I called I should've used the excuse that I work on a military base.

Ask your dealer this... If DRL's are mandatory by law, then why are they an option? Ya gotta love an honest dealer. To my knowledge, no law exists requiring DRL's an any vehicle.

Eureeky, the dealer wasn't saying DRL's are mandatory by law. What they are saying is that once the DRL's are installed they CAN'T disable them because it's against the law to disable a safety feature.

I would use the military base excuse but I know that they'll ask for some form of military i.d.!

If you're not in the military, here's another angle. This came straight out of the Tundra DRL disble TSB posted on this site: "These customers may live or work in military bases or in communities that have light-sensitive gates or guardhouses."

Can you use the light-sensitive or guardhouse excuse???

It's worth a shot!

Andy

I have an 02' Sequoia LTD with DRL's. The resistor pack is to the right side of the battery, and disconnecting the plug does indeed make them go out. Works like a charm. I have installed a relay and switch to be able to make them go off and on as needed also.

There is a single bolt that holds the pack on to the side fender well. You might need to remove the battery so that you can reach this.

If you need I can post a few photos.
