The high beam indicator light on my 2001 Sequoia no longer works. Has anyone else had this problem? I appreciate any help on where to start looking. Thanks, Stan

Yeah, I would say it's just the bulb. When you get your dash apart I would change ALL those little bulbs behind there as well because the other's might not be that far behind that one, (In life) For a couple extra buck's in bulbs it's worth not taken the dash apart over and over again to change them one at a time. I got my 2001 Sequoia used about 8 months ago. It, too, had the high-beam burned out when I got it along with the drive gear indicator light. As part of some other, odd-job fix-ups for the vehicle I had my local repair shop look into getting these instrument lights to work again.
They replaced the drive gear indicator light without a problem. However the high-beam light wasn't repaired because it didn't seem to be just a burned out bulb problem. They spent time tracing the circuits to find the root of the problem but couldn't find it. So my high-beam light is still out. Once things warm up a bit in the spring, I'm planning on using a multimeter and circuit diagrams to see whether I can figure out the problem myself.
I agree with replacing most of the bulbs when in there anyway. My repair shop replaced all the gear indicator bulbs and the cruise bulb at the same time.
But, a while after the bulbs had been replaced, my cruise light stopped working. So this will have to be dealt with again. I was looking around for what might be done to install a more permanent solution with LED bulbs, but haven't had the time to dig up anything. If anyone has references for this I'd appreciate it.

I have NOT yet checked the bulb to see if that's why my high beam indicator light doesn't work. According to the shop manual, there are other things it might be. While I consider myself very "mechanical", I am easily intimidated by electrical matters. Hopefully, it's only the bulb. It is disappointing that bulbs are going out in relatively new vehicles. I suppose a TOYOTA may not be what it used to be.
Maybe Toyota motor company switched company's where they get thir bulbs from or the company they get them from are just makeing them cheeper, who know's. I just bought a used 1999 Tacoma to have as a bus stop car and I noticed on the first night time drive that there where a bunch of lights out in the dash board where the speed odemeter is and over by the heating and A/C controls are. When I replaced them I changed them all but I counted 4 total that where burned out. And for a 1999 truck with low miles I guess that is alot but I didn't think much of it, they where very easy to change. John

Further to this discussion, I happened to notice the following TSB archived at this site. May be relevant to our situation since it talks about a rare failure of the high-beam indicator for 2001 Sequoia with daytime running lights.
EL007-01 HIGH BEAM INDICATOR LIGHT INOPERATIVE

Reason: Link to TSB database removed.
With respect to the TSB EL007-01, I was told by my local Canadian dealership that this TSB identifier is for the U.S. only, and they won't tell me what it is. Does anyone know how to get the equivalent TSB for Canada?
Thanks.

I believe Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) are issued to dealerships to help them identify and repair common problems with Toyota vehicles. In this case, the TSB code I provided points to a particular one dealing with 2001 Sequoia, the rare failure of the high-beam indicator light, and what needs to be done to correct it.
For registered members, the tundrasolutions web site offers access to those TSBs. But they appear to be U.S. based and I need to get equivalent Canada-based TSBs.

Oh, I see, I just called my friend that works at my local Toyota Dealership here in the US and he told me that he is off from work today but he will look it up for me during the day sometime tomorrow and I will post what ever I find out from him Tomorrow night for you.

The TSB mentioned previously states that in rare cases when the High Beam Indicator Light does not illuminate, it can be repaired by making a modification to the wiring harness and replacement of the Body ECU. I looked the part numbers up on the internet. This is what I found: For the Computer, Multiplex (old part # 89221-0C020, new part # 892210C023) list price is $392.63 and cost at 1st Toyoyta Parts is $282.69! The Connector, 2-pin (part # 90980-11910) list price is $3.25, cost is $2.34. No, I haven't checked my bulb yet but it looks to me like it will cost me about $300 to have a high beam indicator light again! I feel sure Toyota won't help as I have nearly 90,000 miles on the vehicle and I've done all maintenance myself, not at the dealership. I'll keep everyone posted on how things turn out. I suppose I'll take a weekend and devote it to service on the Sequoia. It's nearly due for a timing belt, water pump, coolant change, spark plugs, air filter and oil change.
It's most likely the bulb - I have an '01 Sequoia and purchased it new. I've had to change bulbs both in the dash and overhead console - they take different bulbs by the way. I wouldn't change them all as most will be good for 15 years or more and it's an easy job to pull the panels and replace the very few that will burn out. Most dealerships don't stock the bulbs so just order a couple extra for insurance and you probably will never burn another bulb.
I did the timing belt, cam/crank seals and water pump at 110,000 miles and they all looked extremely good. I'll run at least 150,000 miles before I replace them again unless the pump starts to leak.
