1Gen-SequoiaGeneral discussion forum for the first generation 2001 to 2007 Toyota Sequoia.
This is a discussion thread titled "Water proofing your parts on your Sequoia", within the 1Gen-Sequoia forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
Hey any ideas on how to make the Tranny, Diffs, And Transfercase water proof since they all have breathers. I wanted to be able to do water obstacles without worrying about that stuff. I am trying to find a way to incorporate a Snorkel on the Sequoia but don't have a clue. Not sure but thought i could fab a new LC kit to the Sequoia and maybe it would work???
Thanks

The best thing to do is to extend the breathers up to a point that is high enough that water will not be ingested. Whenever you do deep water crossing though you risk the chance that your going to get water into places you don't want. My buddy had breather extensions on his truck but water still got in the diff and really messed it up. Also when crossing water it's best to keep moving because while moving you create a wake which pushes water away from vital parts but if you stop the water can come rushing in. Also don't forget about you electrics and make sure your ECU is well protected. After your done playing in the water always check your fluids for water and change them if you find any. Good Luck!
It doesn't look like Safari Snorkel makes a snorkel for the Sequoia, so not sure what to suggest there except DIY. The best scenario for breathers is to extend them into a snorkel. Alternatively, extend the rear up into the cavity between the inner and outer panels, and the front high up into the engine compartment. Either way you still have to protect the underhood electrics
Thanks a million for the link. I always learn something from this Forum.
Great idea !! I checked the local parts store and the Union (Toyota Part # 90404-51026) only costs $3.50. Between that and the hose / clamps, you are looking at a $10.00 Modification that can be done in less than an hour.
Just curious, have you done the modification? If so, which -- transmission, differential and / or , transfer case ??
