1Gen-SequoiaGeneral discussion forum for the first generation 2001 to 2007 Toyota Sequoia.
This is a discussion thread titled "VSC Trac/SVC Off lights", within the 1Gen-Sequoia forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
Here's hoping they do, because when Victor and I were having this same conversation right before Christmas, the sensor part wasnt available seperately, and I wasn't going to fork out the $$ for the whole booster + VSC recalibration, etc.
Cheers!
Ben

I did check my warranty paperwork and it says they cover Brakes including "power booster". Maybe I'll luck out and it will be covered, albeit with $150 deductible.
I did confirm with the dealer that the switch is not available separately and the entire booster must be purchased to the tune of about $900 I assume this will be the new, redesigned booster? They're checking with my warranty administrator to see if it will be covered (fingers crossed).
Yes, look at post 13 in this thread. Code C1363 was stored and retrieved by the dealer after I brought my '01 Sequoia in for intermittent VSC TRAC/VSC OFF lights both illuminating.
EBJ : your booster is a completly updated already
No changes have been made to the communication method between the VSC system and ECM. However,
the communication method between the Translate ECU and ECM has been changed CAN data format.
A function to transmit wheel speed information has been added to the suspension control ECU.
The dealer needs to pull a code to see the area needed for inspection and diagnosis
blaketag: yes, we are curious, did they cover it under your ext warr?

Preliminary contact indicates they will cover it (after $150 deductible). However, dealer says since they reset the code the lights would have to come on again before they could submit it for warranty processing. So, I'm just waiting to see if the lights come back on (they likely will) before formally submitting it for repair under the warranty. One thing that makes me a little nervous is that the warranty language states they don't cover ABS components. It DOES state they cover the brake power booster though. Could they try and weasel out of covering it by saying it's an ABS component (sensor) rather than the whole booster that's bad? I'll keep this thread updated with any more recent news. Thanks for your interest!
The Sequoia is a 2005 with only 10k miles on it. So far I have not paid a dime. The dealer has said that the codes in the system say that the speed senors in each wheel are causing the problem. I have changed the factory Dunlop tires to Goodyear ATS, a much more agressive tread design but the same size tire. The dealer thinks that because the tread design is more that might be triggering the system codes. I cant see how that is possible because the tires are the same size. I take that back the Dunlop's are 265/65R17's and the Goodyear's are 265/70R17's but all that would be is wider. I dont think the tires are the problem.
I highly doubt the tires are the problem.
Could you tell us the exact codes, so i can do some research?
Blaketag: that is a brake component!!!!! It makes the master cylinder work as well as the ABS.
It is in the brake section.
Dont let them try to pull a fast one.

P0200 indicates a problem with the right front speed sensor circuit.
If they replaced the sensor, ohm checked the wiring(shows good),checked the rotor serations, then the last thing is the SKID CONTROL ECU (internal malfunction). The speed sensor detects wheel speed and sends the appropriate
signals to the ECU. These signals are used to control
the ABS control system. The front and rear rotors have 48
serrations each.
When the rotors rotate, the magnetic field emitted by the permanent
magnet in the speed sensor generates AC voltage. Since
the frequency of this AC voltage changes in direct proportion to
the speed of the rotor, the frequency is used by the ECU to detect
the speed of each wheel.
Without looking at scan tool data this is just a guess. They should be able to drive the seqioua in CHECK MODE, until it sets the code. This will store freeze frame data that can be reviewed.
A faulty wheel bearing might also cause this, but doesnt fit the profile.
A weak battery might also cause this condition, it is possible that it could loose its calibration, replacing the battery and performing a zero piont calibration may also cure this condition.
Alot of camry sunroofs loose their calibration and dont function properly, replacing the battery and zero point calibrating it fixes 99% of those.
The 03 highlander I had yesterday would set off the ABS and cause the brakes to pulsate as you drove, you couldnt go faster than 5 mph without the brakes clicking and vibrating. IT WAS A BAD BATTERY. I replaced the battery, performed the zero point calibration and problem solved.
P1223 is just telling you there is a malfuinction in the ABS. AND REFERS YOU BACK TO ANY OTHER SET CODES.
Hope they find your problem
Here is a attachment for the zero point calibration procedure

Thank you very much. I hope this fixes trhe problem. I'am acutually at the dealer now useing thier computer and I will give this to the service department they did not really know where to go from here there next step was to have someone from Toyota come to the dealership.
I own a 02 Toyota 4Runner and have accessed this web site a few times to see if anyone else had similar problems, recently my "Check Engine" "VSC TRAC" & "VSC OFF" lights have illuminated. I will check brake fluid level.
I have a 2003 Sienna XLE with a similar problem. After driving around 30 miles or so at HIGHWAY speeds, the VSC and TRAC OFF lights come on. NO ABS or CEL lights ever come on. If I shut off the engine, restart, I can go hundreds of miles without any issues.
After reading numerous messages on boards about this problem, there may very well be various causes of this issue. For me, at this point I'm looking at it possibly being a sensor in one of the wheels is triggering as it heats up when driving at highway speeds. Once it's at temp, it does not trigger again. Imperical evidence is that it does NOT trigger again after restarting the car. Scenerio repeats next time I go on a trip.
I understand the TRAC OFF and VSC are part of the same "system", which would explain their interdependency and co-"malfunction". From what I can tell, when the lights are on, the system is NOT functioning, but for me, restarting the car resets the computer.
Since the issue is so intermittent, I am not about to spend thousands of dollars to try to fix it, untill a more definite solution is found. I will try the brake fluid fix, why not?
I'm having a similar problem on my 03' Sequoia. VSC trak, VSC off, and ABS lights came ON and stayed ON. I tryed topping off the brake fluid. I also had the tires rebalanced (had a slight shimmy on the highway). Also checked the gas cap and it's holding pressure. Lights are still on. I took it Auto Zone to read the code, but no code ame up. Where is the DLC3 connector that needs to be jumpered to read the code?
