I think you're talking about a "lug-centric" wheels. My Tacoma however, has the OEM "hub-centric" wheels. Good way to tell, is that there's a "washer" attached to the lug nut, instead of the "tappered" lug nuts like you find on the "lug-centric" wheels. Also, the "shake" in my ride, is severe enough, that there's little (if any chance) it's the shocks causing the problem. If that were the case, the truck would [literally] be, porpousing down the road, especailly after going over a bump (i.e. speed bump).

Believe me... I've tried EVERYTHING! That also includes, trying to get the tires "trued", but there's not enough damn tread left on them, to do that! Up until "this" set of BFG's, I too, believed in them. Now... I'm not so sure anymore!!!

Unless you have a defective tire, how else can you explain the "cupping". I would doubt all 4 of them had defects. I do not run 35 psi in my BFG's, more like 30-32 psi as they tend to bounce over bumps at 35 unless I am hauling a load. Defective shocks do not always cause "porpousing" but now that I see that your truck is a 2004 I would be surprised if they were failing unless you have alot of miles.

Would you characterize the shaking as a violent shimmy? I had this happen on an old Cherokee I had once and it was a combination of worn tires and alignment. If I were you I would just get rid of the old tires and start over. Sorry you had bad luck with the BFG's.

Ummm... you must be looking at my sig line. Yeah, I DO have an '04 DC. However, if you've been reading most of my post, you should know, I'm referring to my '95 Tacoma and not my '04 DC. Fact is, if this "were" happening to my '04 DC, I'd be UP IN ARMS, with the dealership, in a New York minute!!!

As it is though, it's my trusty 'ole steed, which I've had for the better part of 9 years... a 1995 Tacoma Ext. Cab, V6, 4X4 that's gets the call long before my gas-hog Tundra does! As I said in an earlier post in this thread, this little fella' is STILL my work horse as well as my daily commuter (i.e. 40 miles a day) and with gas prices the way they are... things are apt to STAY this way for some time to come!

Be glad to. Keep in mind now... I'm talking about my '95 Tacoma here. At highway speeds (i.e. 65MPH or so), the truck "shakes" rather VIOLENTLY IMHO! It's significant enough, that you can not only "feel" it in the steering wheel, but literally throughout the ENTIRE truck!! Especailly in the seat!!! Take your hands of the steering wheel and you can EASILY [visually] "see" the wheel shaking. Hell, what am I saying... you don't even have to take your hands off the steering wheel. I can literally "see" my hands shaking while still on the steering wheel!!! I'm not exaggerating here either! If it weren't for the fact that I'm feeling this throughout the entire truck, I'd say it's simply a front-end alignment issue, but fact is... I've also had that checked out too!!!

Yep, I'll agree with you here. That's EXACTLY what i'm going to have to do! Like I had said in an earlier post, I can't even have the tires "TRUED", because there isn't enough tread left on them to do this, even though there's another good 15K left on the tires!

Wow Dave, my Cherokee (fullsize '79) only did it at around 40 mph...that sound pretty un-nerving at the higher speed! Good luck, hope the new tires fix your problem. And yes you are right, on my second post I did look at your signature, I forgot we were talking about the '95.

I had to put my revos back on recently and noticed that they are extremely loud even with the windows up and ac blowing low-medium, cruising at around 60 or so. My old tires the BF Goodrich were real quiet.

Default Revos, how about Uniroyals

Now, I don't know what to do. I was hoping for at least 40,000 (rated for 50,000). That is a lot of money to replace tires so soon. I tow a boat and trailer (total 2500lb) every other weekend.

My other vehicle (4Runner, which I know is lighter) had Michelin LTX M/S and lasted over 50,000 miles, but they didn't grip at all like the Revos. Now I am looking for some kind of compromise. I don't think it's too much to expect at least 35,000 to 40,000 miles out of these tires with proper rotation, but 28,000

So, does anybody have any suggestions?
I'm sure you have probably already settled this but I have Uniroyal Larados 255/70/16 on my 2wd Tundra, they have about 35k miles on them and look great! Lots of tread left and they ride smooth, I have taken them to the back woods of the Upper Pennisula of Michigan and they are great in the rain here in DC. This is probably the 5 or 6 th set I have had on as many vehicles. Give them a try. CSM-H

What Revo's do you have? I just got a set of Revo A/T's 265/70/17 and I could not be more happier with them. I was very happy with the quality of the tire as well. I Road Force balanced them, Three out of four of the new tires came up perfect zero's. I did not have to use a single weight on any of the 3 tires. The forth tire only needed a 0.25 weight on the inside of the rim. I have had them on my truck for a little over a week now and so far I like everything about them. They are VERY quiet at any speed, I even brought her up to a little over 100 mph just to check if I herd anything. I thought I was going to have at least a little bit of road noise because they are A/T's and all but I was very surprised to find that they don't make ANY noise what so ever. We had some rain here in Jersey the past few days and I made it a point to go for a nice long ride on the wet roads to test them out. If it was not for my eyes seeing the rain and my ears hearing it I would have not been able to tell it was raining out. The truck handles as if the roads where totally dry. I even threw a few sharp turns in and some full throttle runs from a dead stop and I was VERY pleased with the performance of these tires. Now I just can't wait till we get some SNOW and ICE to test them all over again. Then I will go home and hook up my two place snowmobile trailer and take another test drive. Then I will rate these tires again but so far I give them an A+..............Johnnny

DJ has addressed this issue with certain Toyota models...I don't know if it also applies to yours. The factory alignment specs are way too wide. The specs allow for insufficient caster, and you can get an action like a wobbling wheel on a grocery cart, even with the truck "within spec." For the Tundra and Sequoia, he recommends exact centering of the toe-in and camber, and the caster set right at the maximum allowable limit.

The other possiblilty is a bad tire or wheel. The Hunter GSP9700 "Road Force" balancer can find these problems and do much to fix them.
http://www.gsp9700.com/pub/features/how.cfm

All your problems have a cause and can be fixed...it just takes the right tech with the right equipment.

Default Tires

I had the Toyo Open Country AT's installed and really like them. They have an aggressive wet/snow tread. Run smooth and wearing great.

Angry Re: Disappointed in Bridgestone Dueler Revo tires

I just bought 4 bridgestone dueler H/L Alenza's for my 2003 trailblazer. Im not happy. I researched this like crazy. It was rated number 2 on tire rack. I wanted the Goodyear Fortera triple tred, but its impossible to get these tires anywhere. Even tire rack is on back order, because Goodyear was on strike for a while. Anyways.. back to the dueler alenza. I only drove 15 miles with them so far cuz I just bought them today but am very disappointed in the noise they make. I thought I had the window slightly opened in the rear. A whoosing, windy sort of noise these tires make. No quiet ride- thats for sure. Don't know much more since its early on, but the noise is def there! So do I keep these and suck up the noise problem, since they are otherwise so highly rated.. or do I go for the 30 trial period and return them? But then return them for which ones? These were suppose to be awesome. I read only very few ppl with noise complaints. But maybe the others have their radios and heaters blowing and dont hear it!. Dont know what to do but AM VERY DISAPPOINTED. I had much more quiet on my factory junky bf goodrich rugged trails, which I hated for every other reAson esp traction etc.!

I didn't know anything about those tires but I just looked them up and they are saying their a summer time tire that can handle "light snow". I am surprised they are noisy at all. I have the Revo A/T's and they are VERY quiet to the point that most people that ride in my truck don't believe me when I say I have an A/T tire on the truck! I can tell you that ANYTHING is better then a Goodyear and in opinion your lucky you could not find them. Anything wrong with your truck, I notice that it's not a Toyota and that could always be a problem, I think you said it was a Trail Blazer witch is a Chevy I think. From what I can remember every Chevy I have been in was on the noisy side no matter what kind of tire was on it. Maybe someone that has the tires you bought on their Toyota will see your post and chime in but I just don't see how the tire you bought could be more noisy then the A/T Revo's I have. I see you live rite over the bridge, I am in Jersey and if you don't mind taken a ride over by me I will take you for a ride in my truck with Revo A/T's and show you how Quiet they are. Johnnnnnny

any update on the revo AT's? i am needing some new tires on my TITAN and can get some revos for about 800 out the door. i originally wanted bfg at's but that would cost about 200 more and if i can save some coin, that would be great. however, im not going to get the revos and then have to buy some more in 30k. im not sure if you can get them in the factory 17" size but i had some bfg radial long trail ta's and loved them and at 25k miles, they looked brand new. not to mention, great traction and low noise.

so, again, any other opinions on the revos? they get great reviews on tirerack.com.

I am still on my first set of Revo A/T's and I love them!!! They are by far the BEST tire I have ever had on my truck! I went with a little bigger then OEM, size 265-70-17 and they are great! Not one bit of rubbing at all!! Before I put these Revo's on I was a die hard BFG A/T fan. I thought the BFG A/T's where the best tire around but my friend and what I have read on this site got me to try the Revo's out and let me tell you, I will NEVER go back to the BFG's again. The only thing the BFG's have over the Revo A/T's is the BFG's LOOK a little more aggressive but on the road the Revo's blow the BFG's away!! There where two things I hated about the BFG A/T's, one thing was when you hit a puddle at a high rate of speed the BFG's where down rite dangerous!!! They didn't handle water on the road well at all and the second thing is they didn't last long. Now I will admit I am a VERY aggressive driver and I am very hard on the gas, brakes and turns. So, Because of that I found myself getting a new set of BFG A/T's every YEAR!!! This past October I have had my Revo A/T's on my truck for one year, that's almost a year and a half with the same set of Revo's and they are just now about half way threw their life. And that's still with my same aggressive driving habits. Not to mention how well the Revo's handle water, snow and ice. When it's raining out it's like driving on dry pavement! Do a search on this forum for "Bridgestone Revo A/T's" and you will find all kinds of info. Some people will say that they didn't last them all that long but all I can do is compare them to the BFG A/T's I have bout every year for the past 6 years and with my driving habits I find that the Revo's last me twice as long if not longer. Let us know what you decide! Johnnnnny

I put new Revos on my 2003 tundra when i purchased it. It has been 3 1/2 years and 40,000 miles. No problems, even have a couple of plugs in them from nails.

They are about done and it is time to replace. Any one know of anything better or should I buy more?

Thanks

And I too, have religiously rotated and balanced these tires since I bought them! Matter of fact, I purchased a liftetime rotation and balancing from the tire shop!! So to get away from the BFG's, I was on the verge of considering a set of the Revo's. Now after reading of at least 2 dissatisfied Revo owners here at TS.com, plus having just talked to my tire guy, who ALSO says the Revo's will ONLY give me about 30,000 miles... I'm now questioning whether the Revos "are" any better?!

In any case, I'd CERTAINLY have to agree with you (misejh1), "I don't think it's too much to expect at least 35,000 to 40,000 miles out of these tires with proper rotation", either... ESPECAILLY... considering how damned expensive they are!

Oh well... I guess I'm almost back to square one, once again unfortunately, in the market for tires!
TundraDave, I've tried many different tires over the years, and although the Revo is not one of them, I've gotta say in my experience, the Yokohama Geolanders were the "best bang for the buck". Do a side-by-side comparison on tirerack and you can see they rate highly, and always performed well for me. On top of the good performance and decent price, the tires still looked almost new after 30K!!! The last set I bought for my Taco DC the installer said that he's seen them often last much longer than what they are advertised to (I sold my truck when they had ~30K, so not sure how they are still holding up). He went on to say they probably last longer than they really should as they look good after so many miles that ppl don't consider replacing them, despite the age will eventually affect the performance of the tire. His shop didn't sell Yokohamas -- I bought them off of tirerack and shipped to his store for mounting, but he said they were better tires than anything he had in stock. Anyway, my $.02 -- when my Tundra eventually needs new shoes, it's probably going to get a set of these.
