Default Should I trade.....

I'm averaging 12.5 miles per gallon in my 05 Limited. My neighbor is averaging 23.5 in his new Honda Odyssey. That is pretty much double the milage.....I believe these gas prices are here to stay....don't know if I can justify keeping the Sequoia much longer. Don't know what to do....

Ugh! a mini van...

If it were me, gas would have to be $100 / gal before I'd mini-van it. The Sequoia weighs in around 6600 lbs and the Odyssey is around 4400. 2k in weight difference is pretty big. I'd do a hybrid Highlander before anything so drastic. It's not going to have those massive hybrid mpg numbers like you see on the Prius, but it's respectable for an SUV class. I think the 06' Hybrid Highlanders are quoted at around 31-33 city & 27-28 highway mpg, but I think they usually run a little less than the sticker claims. Still it should be at least up to or better than the Odyssey.

You get what you pay for......I to would not trade in my Sequoia........If gas prices go 3 times higher then they are now I might get a 4 banger to drive to work but I would always keep my Sequoia......Johnnny

Do the math... on avg it would take 3-4+ years to pay off the difference if you traded in the sequoia due to gas mileage alone... even if you downgraded to a corolla or a matrix. Naturally, it would pay off faster the more miles you drive.

From what I've read on hybrids, they cost about $3-4K more and will take 5+years to pay off based on gas mileage. Hardly worth it in my opinion.

Hmm, I am averaging between 15 to 17 mpg (a combination of city/hwy driving). Still, I would never sell the Sequioa...never, I knew that it would be a gas hog and still I love it. For now I drive the Ranger to work. I did this anyway before the gas prices went up. Don't sell it man, you'll regret it!

Exclamation Owned the Honda Odyssey

My wife loved the van and it was good for us. But, when it comes to deer and turkey hunting, towing a boat and travel trailer, hauling around the boys scouts and the buddies from work during lunch time, well you can't match it. The Sequoia is rugid and will be here to stay for the long haul. We had the Odyssey and the automatic sliding doors were constently needing servicing, the automatic transmission was giving in and we were outside of the recall and warranty, and other things were giving out. The Odyssey is not rugid and tough. It will not hold up like the Sequoia. It can not tows half as much as the Sequoia. Plus, the safety you are in a rock solid tank traveling on the road. You are protected more than in those small tiny minivans.
