Yea, mine died too. At first it would not go down via the remote - but it worked fine from the dash control. Then that stopped. The rear wiper and defroster don't work either. I thought it was a fuse. - but it's ok. You can hear the motor click, but nothing happens. Other boards advise to remove the back panel, and mess with the motor. Others say it's a problem with a rear ECU. It's a 05, SR5 with 39K - dumb problem. I know if I take it to a dealer they'll just replace the motor.
I'll keep looking on here for some help. I like my rear window to work.
It costs you nothing more than time to remove the tab mentioned in the other posts (if it isn't in this post search on my username). It likely is nothing more than the tab or a slightly mis-aligned motor. If that fail then you already have the ECU in front of you and it is an easy swap (though not a cheap one, tough cheaper than having the dealer do it for you).
I have a friend with an 02 Sequoia and her rear window has not been working for over a year. Thanks to Andy4, post 22 of this thread, I fixed it easily today in about 30 minutes. You do it like this, and for free!
Raise lift gate
use a putty knife or similar to lift up top trim above window
do same for each side trim
remove screw holding strap on
use small scredriver to lift bottom corner of tail gate cover
slide putty knife in where you see clip and pry up
repeat with putty knife at each clip (8 I think total)
tailgate cover trim is now just held on at window, strike bottom to force it up and out of window
Remove electrical connectors to items on black metal window panel
Remove clips holding wire harnes by pushing in hidden clip on each end and pulling out on harness
Remove screws from panel then take it off (see TSB post)
Remove spring, 2 bolts, and then the 2 metal piece the bolts went to, one on the outside and the one you unscrewed the bolts from
Try the window now, I bet it works!
Replace all panels, wiring and trim
This is much easier than it sounds. Don't be scared off by the TSB. Once uncovered, you don't do anything except remove the spring and bolts and 2 metal pieces. Very easy.

The rear window on my 2002 Sequoia froze up as well. It had been that way for quite some time because we never used it. After checking this message board, I removed the interior tailgate cover and other trim pieces. On the metal panel, I noticed a screw near the middle in a slot with a spring attached to it. When I tried to move it, it was too tight. I loosened it slightly to allow it to slide in the channel and guess what? The rear window has worked fine ever since. I just wish now I had taken a photo.

BTW, the dealer said they checked it and the motor was blown..... about $500 repair...
I have a 2004 SR5 and I was experiencing the same problems as most of the members, window not working, wiper and defroster working fine. After reading the forums, I did some troubleshooting of my own, relay's, fuses, etc. All of which were fine but the window issue.
I was about to click the purchase button on ebay for the OEM motor and I held off. I couldn't help thinking that I might have to purchase both motor and rear ECU.
SO I did some isolation with a test light and found that the ECU was working, by checking the electrical path that powers the motor. See the motor is grounded to the chassis, so the electrical plug just tells the motor to go one way or the other (polarity).
In doing so, I stuck the pointed end of my test light into the power plug coming from the ECU and flipped the switch up and down, causing the light to come on and off, vice versa in either connection.
After plugging the socket back in, the window worked. I don't know exactly what I did, but shoving the test light into the plug from the ECU, and reasembling.
So my issue, was that the connection coming from the ECU was not giving the motor power (apparently). After putting it all back together, it has worked fine now for about 6 months.
Can't hurt to try then spending 100+ dollars replacing parts that aren't broke!

This whole thing makes me very angry with Toyota and just shows how either dishonest or stupid their dealers are. I read how many of you were quoted to need a new ECU aaand motor! Funny how they both went out at once....WHAT BS this is! I bet that the ECU is fine in all of your vehicles and the motor is probably fine in 99% of them.
I too have the 2005 Sequoia and mine has done this twice. I just took off the panel and tapped the motor while my daughter pushed the down button and it made it work again. I will be trying the part removal trick next to see if I an fix it for good. I will never let the MASTER PARTS REPLACERS touch my Sequoia. What idiots! I am on to them.
Another rant if you will allow me....How does Toyota get away with these TSB's instead of a recall? Every problem we had with our Nissans has been a recall and done for free. This window thing is definitely a SAFETY problem since it affects the rear wiper and defroster!
I had a similar issue with my 2000 4Runner. The gas gauge did not work correctly from day one. I took it back to the stealership 5 times and they could not fix it...I gave up! Then about three weeks after my warranty was up, I found a TSB about it. They wanted $500 to repair it....IT WAS A DESIGN FLAW! The TSB proved it was a design flaw...It too was a safety issue....I ran out of gas three times when it said their was 1/2 of a tank on the gauge. Once with my pregnant wife in the car in below 20 degree weather and 10 miles from a town.
COME ON TOYOTA...YOU MAY MAKE SOME GREAT VEHICLES, BUt YOU NEED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR MISTAKES AND QUIT HAVING YOUR DEALERS RIP US AND REPLACE THE BAD PARTS WITH THE SAME DEFECTIVE PARTS FOR TONS OF MONEY....thanks, I will get off my soapbox now.

Thanks for this post. I just worked on my 02 Sequoia 4x2 SR5. While I had the unit open working on the broken back door latch (see other posts about this.....I'm on my 3rd latch now), I decided to try and get the window going again. I did the suggestion of removing the spring & two screws suggested in the TSB and on these posts, but the unit would still not work. It has always clicked when you hit the button, but has worked intermittently over the years an not much at all lately. I remembered a post a long time ago talking about tapping on the motor. I did this a few times and 'whala' it is working again. It was slow and creaky, so I soaked all the parts I could with white lithium grease (about a can's worth) and now it moves up and down much faster and without as much noise. I think the problem with this is the motor is a little undersized for such a big window and it doesn't get used a lot, so the parts get a little stuck and the motor isn't strong enought to overcome it. Try this first before going to the trouble of replacing the motor!!!!!
pulled motor out and replaced the brushes that made contact to the armature. the brushes that was on there broke in half.
sad thing thou is you cant find the brushes anywhere. i did a mickey mouse on it and used a radio controlled rc car motor brushes. make sure its the old 540 size motors because the new ones are brushless. you just have to file it a bit and its good as new.
I just bought an 02 Sequoia. The person I bought if from said the back window didn't work and had not worked for a while. Per the TSB, I removed the spring and 2 screws. Works perfectly now. Fixed in 10 minutes.
Thanks all. My O6 window and wiper were not operating. This fixed it in under 30 minutes.
I first tried to bang the motor or pry a little on the gears and it did not go. By loosening the two bolts at the spring only a little, it started to work. I assume leaving them loose and putting some grease on that mechanism (there's a spring but nothing moves or slides) would be the way to go, but I removed them completely as per the Toyota Bulletin. Who am I to second guess Toyota.
I would kind of like to know exactly what those pieces do.??
Mine (03') hasnt worked for about a year now... the wiper works. I'd like to fix it myself, but am scared I'll screw something up.
From all I've read, I should try tapping the motor while someone pushes the switch... and if that doesn't work, remove the spring. I might just try it.
