1Gen-SequoiaGeneral discussion forum for the first generation 2001 to 2007 Toyota Sequoia.
This is a discussion thread titled "Powerless power outlets", within the 1Gen-Sequoia forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
Is there a way to have the power outlets actually supply power when the key is off other than to crawl under the dash and rewire it myself? I'm hoping there might be a jumper/switch someplace or maybe a reflash. What was Toyota thinking?

Your battery would not last long at all if the truck was not running. It would be to easy for someone to leave something pluged by mistake and return to a truck that won't start.

A cell phone charger would take weeks or months to discharge the trucks battery, and that is if the engine was never started. I have a GPS plugged into my dodge's power outlet 24/7 for 3 years now with no problem. I've never seen another vehicle that turned off power to the outlets (except the cigarette lighter - I can understand that) when the key was removed.
Asian manufacturers ( at least every Nissan & Toyota) I've owned since 1976 have done it that way. Not sure why but they do. Seems like there are some posts that members have done to activate the outlets though. Check the Tundra and Sequoia Forums as the wiring should be similar. If nothing else find a line by the fuse block that's hot all the time and splice a fused pigtail into it and route it to your outlets.

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to syphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????

Your rite all the things you mentioned will NOT cause your battery to die. But all the things you mentioned run on DC and the power point (AC) is not needed for those things. When I think of someone useing the power point (AC) I think of a hairdryer or something that pulls more current. All the things you mentioned will not kill the battery. I thought you where talking about the (AC) power point. Johnnny

I guess you need to be a subscriber to access the mods page, and I'm not. I guess I'll just have to wire it myself.
Johnny,
I've never heard of an AC power point in a vehicle other than plugging an inverter into one of the 12vdc power points. I have an '02. Is the AC power point something they came out with since then?

I didn't notiice that you had a 02. I have an 05 and it has an AC power point. I am not sure what year they started putting them in.
Also, if your going to keep your Sequoia or any other Toyota it's defently a good idea to become a subscriber. Johnnny
