1Gen-SequoiaGeneral discussion forum for the first generation 2001 to 2007 Toyota Sequoia.
This is a discussion thread titled "Cargo Area Backup Mirrors", within the 1Gen-Sequoia forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
I see that 4Runners have an option called a "Cargo Area Backup Mirror" which I believe is mounted on the rear pillar and allows you to see the blindspot area behind the car. Has anybody seen these? Do they work and can we get them for a Sequoia?
Its just a matter of time before I move a tree or a fence that snuck up on me from behind!
I can't imagine what the Sequoia would look like with back up mirrors . But, I do not think I would go for the look of a School Bus or Mail Delivery Truck. What I did was install back up sensors. Realy easy to instal. Just hooks up to the left rear back up light for power. You run the electrical lines under the interior paneling. There is already an acces hole in the rear to run the wires through. The only drilling required is to install the actual sensor into the bumper. Following the instructions given and placing the sensor correctely, I will say that backing up is a cinch. YES, I still use the mirrors

I know you wouldn't want to spoil the "best looking Sequoia" with mail truck like mirrors, but these mirrors are on the inside of the cargo area.
I was playing around with some cheap convex mirrors and I think that mounted right, I'll be able to see my back bumper.

Cool, do you think you could be able to post some pics of your setup?

I will if it works. The cheap ones don't stick to the plastic in the cargo area, so I need to find a way to mount them permanently. I'm going to have to play around some more to make it work.
If you don't mind spending a few bucks a camera mounted where the licence plate lights are pointing down gets a view of the entire rear bumper. My Dad's Toyota Land Cruiser comes with a factory camera mounted there and it makes backing up a cinch. Johnnny

The mirrors in the 4 runner give ZERO visibilty directly behind the vehilcle. What they do provde is a great view down the aisles of parking lots. I looked at the ones from the 4 runner for the same reason. I tried one of the round convex ones but couldn't get mounted at the right angle to work.
I've not seen the factory rear mirrors in action but in my wife's 04 Sequoia we installed a product that is same thing that a friend turned me onto called ScopeOut. His company was doing the P.R. work when this product first came out and told me about it after I asked him what the mirrors were in the back window of his car. I didn't think they would make much of a difference but was really surprised at how well these things work at seeing blind spots as well as off to both sides. My wife hates driving rentals or any other cars now and says she doesn't feel as confident without it. As sequoiasoon mentioned in previous reply, they don't look behind the vehicle like cameras but they allow you to see areas cameras cannot. I would love to install them in my Tundra but unfortunately they don't work in pick-ups. I did a search over the internet and found two sites selling the product, one of the sites contains multiple streaming video segments of the product being used
