I have a 2002 Sequoia. The right front fog lamp has water in it and has not cleared up in over a month. In fact, it condenses inside and fogs it up. I reached behind and noticed that the cable dripped water when I disconnected it.
Does anybody else have this problem? Also, do you know where the water is coming from?
Yea i have the exact same problem....water filled up about 1/4 of the way on the passenger side fog....light still works and factory wont cover it......dont know where the waters comin from
have you looked at the actual foglight yet? i know some 2001 owners had the same problem, especially after washing their car. when i installed my OE foglights i noticed that there was a piece of paper stuck in a tube (what looks like a breather vent/tube) that came out of the foglight (i believe top). i took it out and never had the problem. if i remember correctly, a few others took out the piece of paper and it solved the problem. just something else to considered.
Same problem with the drivers side, I have removed the foglight housing from the flare, removed the bulb and poured in some rubbing alcohol and dumped it out to help remove some the water. let it air dry for a couple of hours in the sun. this will evaporate all of the water.
The parts guy at the dealership told me that when this happens they put a bead of silicone around the housing where the lens is atteched. The housingis and the lens are held together by 2 metal clamps.
I took their advice but the over the counter grade silicone didn't work, mine still filled with moister. the dealer uses a commercial grade silicone. I going to try that next. if that does solve th problem, my next course of action is to drill a small wep hole to let the water drain out.
Also make sure your light bulb is screwed in properly.
the lamp can be removed easily, (drivers side) it snaps into the flare. I used an allen wrench large enogh to fit between the lamp and the flare on the left side of the lamp insert the allen wrench (short side in) and turn towards the center of the vehicle till the lamp pops lose. use a pair of pliers to compress the plastic screw gormet in the back of the housing under the bulb connection. Push from the back with one hand and catch the housing from the front with the other. i hope this helps.

I'm glad you guys responded. I thought I was the only one. I will try the paper trick as well as the silicone. I haven't had a chance to remove the entire fixture so I will have to get to it. I believe the water is coming in through the wire harness. The last time I pulled it off water came dripping out of it. And that was this summer when there was no rain.
I solved the problem. I took your advice and removed the housing and drained it. It appears the water is entering from the wire harness. I cut the shrink tubing from the wire harness and made a bend in it so water could drip to the bottom of the "U". I believe the water is sliding over the bumper, hitting the wire harness and wicking into the housing via the bulb assembly. I wasn't able to remove the lens from the housing (too tight) but I will also place a bead of silicone over it to insure that water is not coming from there also.
This is the second water problem I have had with the Sequoia. The first problem I had was with the rear glass. I had a wire assembly that was rubbing against the window when it was lowered. The dealer did some changes but never solved the problem. I went in there myself and solved the wiring issue but I had a leak. I found out after numerous attempts that the leak was coming from clips that the dealer did not replace. These clips, small as they are, are critical to keeping the water out. Once I replaced those and added foam to the bottom is when the water stopped leaking. It got so bad that I had to remove the entire carpet from the rear area to let it dry out.
Anyone have pictures of removing the stock fog lights? I have an 03 limited, and the passenger fog light lens is actually discolored from having condensation in there for so long. I looked at this this weekend, and couldn't find a drain tube that might have paper in it. I didn't read this before to pay attention to the shrink tube of the wiring harness.
I have an '03 limited...same problem....luckily, it happened while I was still under 36K (warranty)...they replaced it for me. It was just fogged up...no water inside. I haven't had the problem since then...hold on, where's some wood...
After reading the post here I agree with proxybox, the wiring harness looks to be the problem. The other thing I noticed was the 9006 bulb its self. I replaced my XL2 halogen bulbs ($17.50) with Silver star 9006 ($37) the silver star bulb did not have the small cleat bumps that the other (all other brands have) when I reinstalled the old bulbs you could feel how they (old ones) locked into place. the Silver star didn't lock in. When I replaced the silver stars the other day I also put a light coat of brake fluid with my finger around the O ring of the bulb, mind you it's bin a few days and one high pressure car wash and there has been no more excess water getting in. I didn't remove all the moister before replacing the bulbs, I hope the heat from the bulbs will evaporate it through the pressure breather hole at the top of the housing. I'll let you all know how it works in a couple weeks.

Thanks for the info! You mentioned you replaced the silver stars. What did you go with? Another silver star or another?
Mine has started getting enough moisture in it, that it appears to be rusting. It's hard to tell through the lens though because it is so cloudy.
I replaced the silver stars with the auto zone/walmart halogen extra bright extra life two pack. Dealer wanted $12 dollars ea for almost the same bulb all three bulbs are made by Sylvania

Well, so far so good, many high pressure carwashes and driving rain storms and no water in my fog lamps. it's been a couple of months and through it all no water or fog in the light housing. I think the key was to get all the moisture out of the housing. I did this by removing the fog lamp housing I poured in some rubbing alcohol and sloshed it around and dumped it out then I placed the housing in front of a dehumidifier (we have one for our basement) for 24 hours on high. when I inserted the bulbs I coated the rubber O ring with a little brake fluid.
I hope this helps you all with the water problem it worked for me.
I posted earlier on how to remove the fog lamp housing.
let me know if this helps anyone.

this just happened to me, but on my 04 Tundra access cab...thought i'd post some pics of how my fog was setup..pretty sure all the 1st gen trucks will have the same clips..not sure tho.
anyways...there is a clip on only on the left side of the bumper, the other is simply a hole that it slips in to on the right side. the third part that you have to sort of undo is the height adjuster that is clipped on the very bottom of the bumper. i used needle nose pliers to undo all three of these.
on the pic of the light you can see the RTV clear silicone bead i put in the light to avoid any further water leakage...i'll see if this works next few car washes. if it doesn't, then moisture is coming in through where the bulb base is plugged in the back. i have aftermarket HID's and they probably aren't the tightest fit.
pics are attached to this post. you can see the empty hole and how the clips and holes look which are what you need to undo or pry the housing out. the bottom one is where the height adjuster for the fog is clipped in.
Great pics! I'll be curious to know how the sealant works for ya. I ended up buying a cheap pair off ebay with the bulbs in them that have worked well. Only one car wash has caused it to condensate, and in a day or two it was out.
The crazy thing is several books state that the dealer needs to replace the bulbs because it isn't a do-it-yourself job. Now that I have replaced the whole units, I can't believe they would say that because it was so easy as your pictures show. It took 20 minutes.
