Default Installing Backup Camera

I'm Installing The New Bec105 Eclipse Camera Next To The Liscense Plate Light. Can Someone Advise On How To Thread The Wire From The Top Inside Of The Hatch To The Adjacent Interior Of The Sequioa. I See The Rubber Boot/tube That The Factory Hatch Wires Go Thru; Not Sure If I Can Get The 3 Pin Connector On The Camera Wire Thru This. The Camera Has A 3-pin Male/female Disconnect Plug In The Middle Of The Cable As Well As The 4-pin Plug That Goes Into The Back Of The Nav Unit. Do You Have To Cutoff The 3-pin Connector & Solder The Wires Together After The Wire Is Threaded Thru? If So, Are There 4 Conductors Going To The 3-pins? Is There An Easier Way Way To Thread The Camera Wire With The Plug Attached? Special Tool Used?? Do You Have To Remove The Boot/tube To Thread The Wire? I've Seen Steve's Photos Of His Installation. Any Help Would Be Appreciated.

I have a pic here of my camera install location:
http://www.tundrasolutions.com/photo.../23905/cat/801

I drilled out the lower license plate bolt hole/plastic fastener and ran the camera wire through there and then sealed it up with silicon - all hidden behind the license plate.
You are right, there is no easy way to route the wire back to the camera. I too wanted to run the wire through the rubber boot in the upper right of the hatch, but I don't think either that the plug would fit through. Especiall since I alread have two other antenna wires along that path.
I ended up exiting the wire from the cabin right next to the rubber boot, then behind the inner shell of hte hatch. Then along the top to the left side, around the rear glass and along the bottom to the license plate hole.
This means that the weather strip seal along the top of the hatch presses against the camera wire and the chassis. I used a weather strip seal desinged to house the wire and adhered it to the chassis and sealed it up with silicon. However, when I go through a high-pressure car wash, I get some leaking around this seal. This setup works, but when the weather gets warmer her in Iowa, I think I will try to re-route that wire so I don't have the small leaking issue. There may be another blank in the rear hatch to run the wire through with a seperate rubber boot. Not sure.
I would make sure it can be done before you cut that cable. It might ruin it.
I think the most difficult part of the install is securing the wire behind the hatch panel and around the rear glass. You really have to make sure the wire clears the rear glass and is secured very well. If that wire comes loose, the rear glass will catch it very easily and cut it. There is not much room back there!
Good luck! I'm interested to see how you end up running the wire.

Thanks for the reply. Is there any magic involved in removing the large interior panel on the hatch?

Pull the plastic cap off of the base of the handle/strap. There is a screw or bolt (can't remember which) you need to remove behind it. Then the panel will pop off just like a door panel. It uses the same fasteners that the door panels do. There are also a couple of small metal access panels on the inner skin of the hatch. I found it easier to see and get to some things if you remove them.
Once you get to that point, run the rear glass up and down a couple of times while you watch it so you understand how it moves in it's tracks. It will help you figure out how to route the wire to stay clear of the glass and all the moving parts.

Default Re: Installing Backup Camera

Thanks again for the info. Completed the installation yesterday-went very well without having to drill any holes. I mounted the camera to the horiz lip adjacent to the left liscence plate light-same as Steve Pics. I loosened the painted bezel around the liscence plate area, loosened the left liscense plate light and ran the wire up behind the light. Wire followed the same path (behind bezel) as the wires for the liscence plate light, then thru the interior of the hatch. Ran the wire thru the boot that the left tail light wires go thru, then up to the top of the hatch. Now to the fun part. I realized quickly that I wasn't going to be able to thread the plug completely thru the acordian sleeve on the left side of the hatch, however, I could thru the sleeve on the right that houses the washer fluid hose. Therefore I inserted the wire into the entrance of the "acordian" sleeve, made a hole thru the rubber, then exited the sleeve approx an 1" in from the entrance. Ran the wire thru the interior of the top part of the hatch to the right side, then down thru the sleeve for the washer hose into the interior of the vehicle. Just disconnect the hose (hose barb on right side of dome light), disconnect both ends of sleeve, remove hose, thread the plug thru sleeve, reinsert hose, reinstall sleeve, reconnect hose. Done.
Hope this helps you

Is your dvd entertainment system factory installed? If not is it set to play on your nav.
I am having a aftermarket dvd installed. The installer said it would not be connected to the nav. I want to install the backup camera also. But i want everything to work on the nav. What do i need to do. I was also looking at the ultimate lockpick. Anyone out there with all the answers?

Thanks
Ronnie

I have an aftermarket Nav./DVD player and a rear seat DVD player and screens with a backup camara and I can watch anything on any screen. I guess it all depends on what aftermarket system you buy. What do you have?? Johnnny

Thumbs up Re: Installing Backup Camera

All i have now is the factory nav system. What I want is backup camera that is plug and play with my factory nav system. It sound like the BEC 105 Eclipse will work. So I ordered one last night on ebay 175.00 with shipping.I am alittle nervous on the install. I am not sure how to run the wires from the back to the nav system..It sound like some were stopping at the dome light. Also removing the dash....???? I do not have a DVD entertainment installed as we speak. I am planning on getting one though. My Toyota dealership recomended a business for aftermarket DVD players.
I stopped in and asked a few questions. They said that the dvd could not tie in with the nav system. The same with a backup camera. Well I know that is BS just by what i have been reading in the forums. It could be liability issue.I feel that the ultimate lockpick can solve the dvd problem playing on the nav system. But i need some help with the install ....ie.. dash removal and wire fishing from point a to b.

Thanks Ronnie

PS: Johnnny you setup is awesome.
