1Gen-SequoiaGeneral discussion forum for the first generation 2001 to 2007 Toyota Sequoia.
This is a discussion thread titled "Check engine light is on, again!!!!", within the 1Gen-Sequoia forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
I just got the "check engine" light cleared on my 2001 Sequoia at 45,000 miles by getting the charcoal canister replaced. Now at 49,000 miles, the "check engine" light is on again. What gives?!?! Last time it cost me $800.00 and they kept the car 2 days. Now I'm afraid to walk in the service center because I know it will already cost me $200.00 just to find out the problem.
I'll find out what's going on next week. If its another major problem its time to go shopping for something else.

Go to an autoparts store and have them read the code. Its usually free.
Let us here at TS know what the code is and maybe we can point you in the right direction to fix it yoursef.
There are literally hundreds of things that can cause the "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" to come on.
Let us know

I was told that the most common reason for the light going on was leaveing the engine running wile getting gas. I herd that it makes the light go on because of the lose of pressure in the gas tank. If I where you I would diconnect you battery for a wile and reset the light, see if it goes on again. Johnny

I always shut the engine off to get gas and I always make sure the gas cap is tight. I'm thinking it might be the spark plugs. If thats the case then its worth changing them because its a maintanance thing. I won't have time this week to go to the service dept but I will let you guys know the deal.
