I picked up one of the harnesses mentioned above from a local install shop. They warned me there was a possibility for unwanted noise at low volumes. Sure enough, wired everything up, plugged everything in, and when I push the ATT button or take the volume down to 00 there is an unwanted noise, when the engine is running and head lights are on the noise is accompanied by some clicking. The guy at the shop recommenced trying to chassis ground the amp ground wires that come out of the harness, this just made the noise worse. Just so everyone is on the same page, I have a 2002 Sequoia Limited with the JBL 6-disk changer. I'm wanting to install an older Kenwood KDC-519 that use to be in my 04 Tacoma, I like the auto flipping face. I have only had the Sequoia for a month, the previous owner added and after market DVD system, which took away my dome light, so that is my next project. Get light were there is none.
The Harness I got from the local guy here in CA has four RCA plugs (2-red and 2-white, obviously), 12VDC+ switched (red), 12VDC+ constant (yellow), 12VDC- Chassis Ground (Black), Dash Light (orange), Amp Tune (Blue w/White), Amp Ground (Black w/white), unknown wire (Black w/white). The plug is for the 20-pin connector that goes into the back of the factor head unit. Only 11 of the pins are being used, two of the wires on the harness aren't being used, either (the two Black with white stripe wires).
The last down fall is that my power antenna doesn't work, either. The Kenwood has a wire for the power antenna but the harness doesn't. So I'd have to find which wire, on the factory harness, goes to the antenna and hard wire it.
Needless to say, I'm going to go back to the stock head unit.
The local guy said that you can install noise cancelers to help, but we didn't get that far. Guess I'll go back there for the third time tomorrow and see what he is talking about. No idea what noise cancelers are, but he said it would take a lot of them.
One more thing he said was the reason they don't make a harness that is direct plug and play, is because of all of the speakers the Sequoia has. He told me an after market radio would have to be hard wired, which starts at $100 and climbs with the difficulty. Guess he has to use a signal generator to figure out which wire is which. I am talking about the long plug that attaches to the bottom of the factor amp. That is the plug for the speakers, or so he says.
