Re: 07' Instrument Cluster Swap
Well, I work for a Lexus dealership and on the Lexus model cars the mileage is stored and displayed on the cluster as well as the ECU. You can put a new cluster in showing 0 miles, but the main ECU will always store the true miles.
On certain Lexus models the instrument cluster has to be programmed with the actual miles. Lexus will not sell a cluster with 0 miles, we have to special order them from the manufacturer with the miles pre-programmed.
On certain older Lexus models the cluster is separate from the mileage display. On those cars you can swap out the cluster, the mileage is its own little ECU display, separate from the cluster.
I was hoping on our trucks the same is true where you can swap out the cluster without effecting the mileage. Meaning, hopefully the mileage display is separte from the main cluster board. I have not opened up the cluster yet, but from looking at the cluster it seems the mileage display is part of the instrument cluster, and cluster will have to be programmed to match mileage.
I also wonder if the electrical connections will work from the 03' to the 06'. Not sure what is different on the newer model clusters compared to the old ones. I know the newer clusters have the rear ride height control display, which was not available in 03'. I hope that difference does not mean the electrical connections are totally different.
Thanks
