cruise control not working

this has happened twice now. driving along - go to turn on the cruise control & nothing - the light is there but you can't set it or anything. stop, turn off the truck, restart & it work just fine - any ideas? Has this happened to anybody else?

My wife swears this has happened to her, it happened about a week after we bought our 02 Limited, same thing pulled over, shut it off then it worked. We've owned it for a few months now and I just brushed it off, hoping she didn't know what she was doing but who knows the problem may resurface. If you ever figure it out let me know, I think next time I take it to the dealer I'm going to complain about it, see if there's a TSB or known fix/problem.

Toyota cruise controls are kind of funny if a brake light is out. I would first check to see if all your brake lights are functioning. If that isn't the problem, take a look at this web page Toyota Pickup Cruise Control. It will help you find which circuit is acting up, but is no help for fixing the problem.
