Re: File a complaint to NHSTA regarding VSC/ABS Skid control ECU failure
Hey Mustang,
you always help in a crunch. My 03 SR5 with 82k had the vsc come on recently. I added brake fluid once and it went away for about 3 days. I am not certain that a DIY can replace that ECU for the VSC even with good knowledge. How much is the unit through your dealership with the TS discount?

I will look into it on TUESDAY when I get back to work.
As stated below, it is always good to have a code and not just guess or assume.
If you do have a code please post it. We might have a better idea of what you might need.

You might be better off letting Toyota check the codes. My friends acted up last week and she got out with only having to buy the YAW sensor. She spent about $350 (part and labor) as they honored the price I could buy the part for over the internet from Toyota of Dallas. That saved $110. Yours could be something else but it is expensive to guess. If you guess wrong, you eat it. If they get it wrong, they eat it. Just my 2 cents. Good luck.

Bump.
My dash is lit up like a Christmas tree but I believe the Cars Direct extended warranty will cover - still checking. Quite frustrating.

Re: File a complaint to NHSTA regarding VSC/ABS Skid control ECU failure
Had the translate ECU replaced (under Toyota Extra Care) 3 weeks ago.(Everybody should REALLY consider getting one from TOG) $0 out of pocket for the repairs. Also showed codes for oxygen sensor, replaced at the same time.
2 weeks later same lights came on ESC, TRAC, Check engine. I was like WTF? Had my independent shop check and only code was for another O2 sensor. Went to dealer to get checked, same story O2 only. Story from rep is that the check engine light triggers all by default. Truth??, Lie?? don't know but only thing on the bill was another O2 sensor (also covered in full).
Truck has 47k and is 4 1/4 years old.
Question is how many people have had it replaced "out of warranty" that might have only been an O2 sensor triggering all 3 lights? Nice extra $$ for the crooked dealers.

Re: File a complaint to NHSTA regarding VSC/ABS Skid control ECU failure
My truck just hit 104,000 miles and the VSC off/VSC trac/ABS lights came on - for the second time. This happened to me about 30,000 miles ago but Toyota took care of it. Guess i'ma have it checked out again. I also have a check engine light which I think is unrelated blah.

02 Seq here, My VSC/TRAC lights came on but somehow the lower ball joint on the right front passenger side was bent?! How? Anyway had to replace the LBJ now they can't get the VSC/TRAC lights to go off. Funny how they came on when that happened. 66K & I've had her since day uno. Something smells...
Re: File a complaint to NHSTA regarding VSC/ABS Skid control ECU failure
Complaint filed for repeated failure of the ECU Translate. I own a 2003 Sequoia purchased with 38000 miles on it. The in dash brake warning light comes on. The vehicle has been to the dealer 6 times. ECU has been replaced twice along with mutliple other components related to the brake system. Problem continues. Toyota Regional Tech. is now working on vehicle. I think I will pursue a vehicle buy back.
Re: File a complaint to NHSTA regarding VSC/ABS Skid control ECU failure
My 2003 Sequoia has had the VSC problems 3 times now. The first time at 54K, booster and steering angle sensor replaced. Toyota good willed me a portion of the cost and I paid $957. The second time, at 78k, just a steering angle sensor was replaced and I paid $500. We are on our third time 92K, and the problem is presenting as it did the first time. VSC lights are off in park, but when I put the vehicle into drive and begin to move, there is a quick abrupt jolt, a brief grinding sound, and the lights go on. Has anyone else had this problem repeatedly? Any suggestions on how to deal with Toyota? I am fed up. I bought a Toyota so I wouldn't have problems like this. I know there will problems with a vehicle on occasion - but come on.

My wifes truck (2003 with 70K miles) just started doing the same thing. Lights are off when you start the truck and as soon as you start moving, it makes the noise and the lights come on. Any suggestion are highly appreciated. PLEASE HELP!!! Don't have any extra cash to pay dealer to start guessing.
Re: File a complaint to NHSTA regarding VSC/ABS Skid control ECU failure
I am happy to report that Toyota is going to pay 100% of the repair for my 03 Sequoia's VCS system. I paid a large portion of the repair the first 2 times it happened. I am hoping that they are doing this because it has occured enough times for them to realize that it is a widespread problem. I was told that the decision was made by the Toyota district rep, not at the dealership alone. My plan is to get it fixed, sell it, and buy the 08 Sequoia. I do love my truck, and I think Toyota is a good product overall - they are just slow at recognizing when there is a problem.
Re: File a complaint to NHSTA regarding VSC/ABS Skid control ECU failure
Hey Guys,
Is it possible to get the codes read somewhere other then the dealer. The stealer is charging me $95.00 to just diagnose the issue (i.e read the codes)
I think i read somewhere that people are getting it done at places such as Advanced Auto Parts so i tried going there today, and they told me that they only have a computer to read engine codes and not the VSC/ABS issues.
Re: File a complaint to NHSTA regarding VSC/ABS Skid control ECU failure
Just an update..we had the ECU replaced for the VSC/TRAC lights as "goodwill warranty" from our service dealer on our 02 Seq. Was pleased but how many had to pay up before big T started replacing these free?! The jolt you felt was the TRAC system kicking in b/c it thinks something is wrong at least thats what our service advisor told us, but that it was safe to drive! Sometimes having the #1 market share comes at a price! Quality down, profits up, at least for the short term!
Re: File a complaint to NHSTA regarding VSC/ABS Skid control ECU failure
I just filed my complaint! It really pisses me off that we are all having the same problem with this car and Toyota won't do anything about it. I am trying to figure out how to get rid of this lemon ASAP and will never buy a Toyota again!
