Default Lifting 2wd Tacoma dbl cab

I have an 04 dblcab pre-runer. I go offroad to get to dirt bike trails but tha tis about it. No real offroading. I'd like to get larger wheels and tires. They lok better. It seems that most lifted tacomas are 4wd. Does anyone lift the 2wd models or is that sort of thing just not done? I was looking at the 2wd Rancho kit. Not sure they make them anymore though.

I guess my problem is I read alot about CV joint binding but few kits come with drop spindles or what not. Is this required for 3-4 ich lift?
I am looking for the most well thought out kit. Who has that? One where I don't have to worry about CV binding, steering binding, brake line issues, rear suspension weakness etc...

Thanks.

You don't have CV's cause you don't have 4wd.

How much are you willing to spend?
How much lift do you want?
What size tires are you going to run?

And yes tons of people lift their 2wd prerunners cause it looks good.

Yes I understand that. I am speaking generally. I read you you did not like the pro-comp 4wd 4" kit becasue the spindle spacer design
causes breakage. CV was just an example. My bad. I was making the point that I do not want to worry about issues with marginal kits. A well enginered kit is what I want.

Willing to spend : 1500-2000
Lift : 3-4 inches
Tires : 32 perhaps 33. A little extra width in the stance would be really nice but that gets into offset.

Something like this, I like the extra width, height is about right. Any idea about tire size there? Who has the best kit for this set up keeping in mind it is a daily driver so super Competition offroad shocks and 800 pound spring rates are out.

I'm taking a wild guess, but that looks like a 305mm width tire or maybe even 12.5". It looks like the BFG AT's 305/75/16.

Anyways, I reccomend the 5" Tuff Country lift kit. It's super strong and well put together kit. The kit itself will run you about $1500-1600 depending on where you buy it from. Plus since you have a 2wd truck, then you won't need to cut the front crossmember ti install the Tuff Country drop down bracket. So that gives you the option of removing the lift kit if you ever feel like doing that....which I doubt.

The 5" kit will easily let you run a 33" tire like the truck you posted up. You might want to think about regearing when going up to this tire size cause you will feel a lost in power and your MPG will go down just a bit. New gears like 4.56's will give you back your power and MPG's.

3.5" fabtech lift, with 305/70/16 tires. I've read some don't like the fabtech suspension, but I love it. I love speed and the fabtech set up is perfect for it. Handles great, nimble body roll so it corners well.

ICON coilover kit, 2.5-3.5" lift, fits 33's. It rides a bit stiffer than stock on hwys and streets and eats up bumps when taken off-road. Comes with front coilovers/resovoir rear shocks/sway bar drop brackets, and aligns to factory specs. THIS KITS ROCKS!!!

Pro-Comp if you want a 6" lift, this will fit 35's, but then I recommed regearing also. This is a bit pricey too.

Pm me for prices, we do all installs at the dealership.

If all you want to put on it is bigger tires, put on a spacer and aal and call it quits. You will be out the door for $500.
