Default Questions about 4cyl Double Cab

Does anyone here have a 4 cyl Tacoma Double Cab? I'm seriously thinking about getting one. If so, how is the interior noise and acceleration?

You must be talking about a used one because I believe the 03s only have a V6 available. Acceleration would be very poor with the 4 cylinder.

I have seen numerous ads for 4 cyl. doublecabs for sale. Whether this is still possible for 03 I have no idea, but they certainly have been made in the past. However, as far as I can tell they are only available with 2WD .

Check here for some of them:

After searching it out you are correct the prerunner double cab are all 2 wheel drive and have the 4 banger standard. The 6 cylinder is standard in the 4x4 double cab. To answer your question the 4 cylinder will not have much get up an go in the double cab

Yes, they still do sell the 2WD 4 cyl DC models, although I'm not sure if all the 4cyl DC models are PreRunners. I don't expect blazing acceleration with the 4 cyl but I'm also hoping it is not sluggish neither especially since the Tacoma supposedly has the most powerful line of powertrains in its class.

Yes, that Autotrader search was done with Houston as a base, and the search radius was kept small so that people who have dial up access wouldn't have a huge retrieval wait. I originally posted it with a larger radius, but the results took forever to come back, even with cable. A few ads proved the point as well as many would have, so I restricted the search to my home area.

I never heard of the 4cyl. in the double cab tacoma. Only the six mated to the auto tranny. Be warry of classified ads many have incorrect info.

For all you persistent doubters, go to Carsons website. They have 11 (that's ELEVEN) 4 cylinder DoubleCabs, showing IN STOCK, with detailed descritptions of each, as I post. It is under the Select New Inventory tab.

gotta go with the V6..... spend a little more and be happy with your truck... if you get the 4cyl your gonna hate it after a few months or days... it doesnt have very much power at all even when it comes to merging onto the freeway it doesnt have enough "umph" in it.... especially if its auto... maybe thats why a lot of people are selling those cuz they arent very happy with them... but i would go for the V6... i have a 03' dc V6 and im happy with it... then if 190 horsepower is not enough.. buy a supercharger and that should be enough.... just my .02....

Thanks for the advice. I was thinking about getting the 4cyl not only because it is more affordable but also because there is less maintainance involved. I also heard the 4 cyl was a very powerful powertrain, and has almost as many HP as the old 3.0 V6 in the old Hi-Lux Puckups.

I just test drove a 4 cyl DC this weekend and the performance was a bit wanting and quite a bit of engine noise found its way into the interior. Quite strange because I've ridden in the 4x4 4cyl extracab(manual) in which the engine wasn't nearly as noisy.

Yes,all Doublecabs are either the 4x4 or the Prerunner, they dont offer the regular 2 wheel drive non Prerunner suspension in a Doublecab. And as stated earlier only the 4x4 comes standard with the 3.4. And unfotunately they dont offer the Doublecab with a manual tranny,so you would be underpowered with a 2.7 mated to the auto.
