I was in the market for a used 4x4 Tacoma V6 (2001-2004), but in the market here I am finding 4x4 Tundra’s priced cheaper than Tacoma’s . After looking at the posts about the brake TSB and exhaust manifold problems, I might stick with the Tacoma.
The question I have is there any issues I need to be aware of on 2001-2004 4x4 Tacoma’s, such as TSB’s and such?
Here is a link regarding reliability of an 2001 Tacoma. I have a 2001 and have experienced the problems listed. Besides that its an awesome truck and I know it will have no problem hitting 200k.
Purchased my 04 with 36,000 on it, 4/06 and had no problems at all, regarding reliability... Turn the key and it goes... Then again, I used Carfax www.carfax.com extensively on all the trucks I was looking at... Anyone that doesn't used Carfax, is just asking for trouble...

Maybe on a domestic car? I've never used carfax purchasing my used Toyota's and they were solid.

Carfax is helpful at times. But I have bought vehicles I have run a car fax on and come to find out the vehicle still was in an accident. Not all accidents are reported to carfax. Also carfax is just a history report it has nothing to do with reliability. But I still do carfaxs since it is good to know where the vehicle has been and how many owners etc.,
on the V6, the 03 and previous still used a real throttle cable instead of the drive by wire. Basically less electronics. Some people have reported problems with the throttle body failing on the 04.
