Default Alignment

Anyone have any alignment issues on their 04 tacoma 4x4? Both my front wheels appear to be slanted inwards towards the right and left sides of the inner wheel wells. As far as I can tell, both wheels should be straight.

You purchase the truck new? Using different tires? Lifted at all? Last time aligned? Hit anything big recently?

There are too many possible culprits.

Yes, well the steering and bushing racks have been replaced. However the shop did the alignment, so they claim. I am going to have them check it under warranty soon. I've only been offroading a few times here and there and have done some mudding. However have washed all the dirt off and such.

If I do a visual on my front wheels, I can see the slant vs. other Tacoma's similar to mine, which appear straight. I purchased it used with 43k miles on it. Also have upgraded to 265 75 16s from 265 70 16s.

Not lifted at this time and have thought about a suspension lift. Only have ran over normal bumps in the road and recently one big bump or some crap on the 15 in Cali. That part of the interstate, appears f'ed up on a certain section right after you pass Temecula, on the far right second lane.

The off-roading could be part of the blame, and also going up in tire size on the stock wheel could cause some trouble too.

Thank you. Going to 75s from 70s would cause that much of an issue?

You are changing alot of factors by going up in a size. More weight to push. Longer rotations around. It can affect a lot actually.

The dealer told me the alignment with the wheels being inward is normal and they set my steering wheel so it is straight. It was a little off to the left. Somehow I don't know if I believe them with them saying the wheels being titled in. They say it is the way it sits and is actually normal.

The spec calls for pretty decent negative camber, is it wearing out the inside of the tires? If not don't change it or you will lose cornering power. Mine looked like that too and I was aligning it and found out the specs. You can get better highway driveability by bumping the caster positive as much as possible while keeping the camber in spec. Helped mine tremendously as well as changing the crappy steering shaft. Toyota steering shafts from the steering wheel to the lower shaft are really crappy. The collapsible joint is filled with a nylon like material and they get really sloppy with time. Never pull hard on the wheel with the engine stopped or you'll have a sloppy wheel. Mine was so bad I coughed up the $200+ for a new one.
