Default 01 Tacoma Prerunner Clunk

Hey everybody,
I'm new to this so excuse any stupid comments/remarks.
Ok,i need help!
I have a 2001 Tacoma Preunner v6Auto.It makes a loud clunk(like metal hitting metal) when shifting between drive & reverse and vice versa. The noise is definitely comin from the driveshaft. It also makes a strange creaking noise when accelerating-again it's comin from the driveshaft someplace.

Any thoughts would be very much appreciated.

Tried looking at previous posts but none are quite what i'm experiencing

Cheers!

Are all the bolts on the ujoints tight? The slip yoke has been known to be a culprit of "thud" noises before too.

i'll check it out and get back to you.
If it's the slip yoke should i just get in there and start greasing or is it more likely to be something more serious?

Thanks again!

My truck used to clunk and have the axle wrap thud when stopping and accelerating. But Come to find out my slip yoke was stuck since the previous owner never greased it. So I took it to a drive shaft shop and the loosened it up for me and i greased it and continue to do so and has been fine. Check that slip yoke and grease it up!

I agree with the others about lubricating the slip yoke. If that doesn't elimnate the clunk noise, I would think about replacing both your front and rear u-joints.
