Default OEM Alloy Wheels

I contacted a shop in Ottawa to repair a wheel on my 2002 Tacoma which I suspect is bent, causing balancing difficulties.

The guy asked for a photo of the wheel. I sent one. This is his reply:

"There were four different wheels for your truck that have identical appearance (type of lug nut, offset). We need to have the wheel off of the truck in order to tell which version you have."

Assuming that his comment is accurate, how do I tell the different types of wheel apart? I guess an ebay replacement is out of the question?

Thanks,

Rod

Toyota did release a few different wheels on the Tacoma, however with a photo of the exact wheel, I can't see how it is hard to figure out which one.

Can you post the photo here?

Default Wheel's not bent.

The guys told me the wheel is perfect. It's the tire that is badly out of whack. He said the tire was manufactured with a bump in it.

Then the fun began.

Dayton Timberline AT P265-75 16's are discontinued, and have been for some time. There currently aren't any new ones in Canada that I could find.

To get rid of the thump, I may have to buy four new tires after 3500 miles. This isn't looking good on the used car dealer who sold me the truck on ebay.

The photo you posted is a very common wheel on the 6 lug Tacoma.

As for the tire, the dealer that sold you the truck may not even be liable, however it may be the tire manufacturer. Maybe contact them with a photo of the bump in the tire to see if they will replace it for you?

Otherwise, running a different model tire with the same size dimension wouldn't be all that bad, just make sure the tire wear and all other specs are the same.

i bought truck with 140K on it off the reservation and owners took great care of it and i was lucky because lotta vehicles out their are in bad shape due to location/conditions!! no i ran numerous sets of wranglers on it before i woke up and did the Michellins and only have 1K on the new set of LTXAT2's and they should last me for around 50 to 60K i HOPE!! not a bad set of tires for this old hunting truck and you can tell i do not hunt much when i do not run a MT setup but NM is different when it comes to most 4 wheeling!!
