Default High Idle 2.7

I have a 2000 tacoma with the 2.7 and the Idle shows on the tach at about 1200-1400rpm all the time Even when warmed up. Runs smooth and no surging. Just has high idle. I have checked for vacuum leaks and did not find any, I sprayed carb cleaner around all the hoses and did not hear the engine change idle sound. I have tried to manually turn the throttle back to see if it is sticking. It will not move any farther back. I do believe the Idle air controller is the problem. Pulled the Throttle body and got the IAC off. I tested it and it shows bad. I tested the RSC to B+ and it reads 60 ohms, the RSO to B+ and it reads OPEN so I think I have a bad IAC correct?

I just got the truck so I have no idea how long its been doing it. I did notice the temp gauge does not work. I checked the temp sensor for resistance and got 340 oms at about 120 degrees. But at cold the oms is .56. Does the engines computer need the temp gauge to work? If so would that cause the high idle? Sensor is 29 bucks at autozone so i dont want to have to replace it if I dont need to.

Default Re: High Idle 2.7

Hmm this is very interesting since both actually can play a role with eachother. The idle is supposed to be high when first started to get the cats warmed up faster, but if no temperature change can be recognized by the computer, that could be a culprit.

The part is $29 at autozone, but can be returned if not needed correct? It doesn't hurt to still do trial and error.

I let the truck set idleing for a few minutes with the fllor mat over the radiator to get some heat in it now the gauge is showing movement right at the bottom. I think I got a stuck open thermastat and a bad Idle air controller. Noticed the heater was only just slightly warm and I read that the gauge only starts working when it get about 170 or more.
