What do you guys get for gas mileage on your automatic 2.7 4 cylinder double cab Tacos. When I bought mine in Sept. w/ 54K miles I got 21 MPG and it had Dueler HT tires on it. I changed tires 2 weeks later because they were worn out. I changed to Toyo Open Country AT and I get 19.5-20.5 mpg. now. Is that about avg? Mine is a PreRunner, double cab, auto. No TRD package and no hauling being done. Also, what reg. maintenance should I have done at 60,000 miles. Not sure what is has had done. I had the ball joint recall replaced already. Looking at trans fluid of course but don't know about plugs, etc.
Yeah,
I have a 97 Tacoma 4 x 4 with the 2.7 litre engine and automatic trans.
I am in Northern Montana and it's been frigid here for the last several weeks.
My mileage has gone in the dumper also.
During the summer I can get around 19 mpg. but using the 4 wheel drive combined with the snow and the cold weather here I can barely manage 14-15 mpg.

Did you change the size of your tires when you replaced them? If so that will change the way your odometer reads and therefore show a different mpg when you calculate it.
I'm actually considering stepping down from my Tundra DC to a Tacoma DC to try to get better gas mileage.
I have an 06 Tundra DC 4x4, Snug Top, spacer lift with 285/75 16's. I religiously check my mileage when I fill up through a mixture of highway/city driving. I generally get about 14.0-14.5 mpg, freeway I'll get 15.5, but it's a big truck, LOTS of space.
I would consider getting something smaller for better mileage, but only if the trade off is favorable. In other words, I don't want to give up all the room and cargo space for the sake of 3-4 miles per gallon.
So that's what brings me to the 2.7 liter, 4 cyl, 2wd, Tacoma DC option. Word on the street is that these trucks can get as much as 24 miles per gallon. That's a considerable difference to what I get now.
For you guys who track your mileage very regularly? Is this consistent? What's your combined city/highway mileage? etc., etc.?

Something is wrong if you are only averaging 15.5MPG even in a Tundra DC on the highway. That snugtop adds alot of weight on the back. Ditch it for a soft tonneau if you can. The lift and wider tires do not help at all either.

Th larger tires, lift and Snug top diefinitely aren't helping things, but at the same time my mileage is fairly consistent with other DC Tundra 4x4's if you ask around in the Tundra forum.
I've got a 2000 Tacoma 4 cyclinder, 2.7L, 5 speed and I get about 15-16 during the winter and 17-18 in the summer. I can get 19 maybe 20 on the highway if I don't over do it and keep it under 80, LOL.

I have an 01 xtracab 5spd and I'm right there too, about 17 in winter and tops of about 20 in summer. On an interstate trip from RI to VA I have gotten up to around 22 mpg at best.
