I see this is your first post here. We invite diversity of opinions, but not negative blanket statements and trolling.

We welcome newcomers, but also expect new guests/members to be respectful and constructive in their posts.

Do you know what rock salt is? I'm not sure if they use it up in Seattle, but around these parts, it melts snow, and destroys frames, regardless of what vehicle it is.

Emailed the Saint John, NB dealer today. Toyota Canada is doing the same buy back program. I had big holes that I had plated over last fall, but I suspect she'll still fail the hammer test now. Will know more in a few days...

Dealer failed my truck. Now I've got a Yaris rental while they decide how much to give me for the truck. Course, I've still got the tundra in the driveway when I don't mind paying for gas...

My dealer called Enterprise, arranged everything, and they picked me up right at the dealer.
I don't know what my book value is. I'm up in Canada, where most folks, including the dealers, think their trucks are made of gold, so I'm really looking forward to seeing what the registered letter says in a few days...

I put the gentleman that owns the truck I posted pictures of above in a rental car from our dealership the day I called TOYOTA about it. Toyota will pay for the car, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR IT AT ALL.
He has been in this car for 2 weeks or so, HIS TRUCK HAS BEEN DEEMED UNSAFE TO DRIVE.

Default Tacoma recall

My father has a 1997 Tacoma and had it in the dealership for the frame recall, needless to say, his truck was fine. It was garage kept and he always used undercoating on his vehicles. My father-in-laws co-worker bought a 1998 Tacoma a few weeks ago for $5000 and took his to the dealership to check on the recall and needless to say, in a week, he walked out of the dealership with a $12,000 check. I was wondering how many other members have had their truck purchased by Toyota? This makes me want to buy a few Tacomas and profit from them...lol...

My dad took his 2007 Tacoma in and it checked out alright. He was hoping for them to buy it back. A guy who works for my father-in-law bought a tacoma for $5000 and then got a $12000 check for it from Toyota. I think I am going to hit the classifieds and see about buying some and making a little extra, if ya know what I mean?.........lol.......

Default Re: Tacoma recall

If you are thinking of doing this re think it. They are buying the trucks back at 1.5x the KBB if you owned the vehicle before the March 08. After that point they are only paying what you paid for the truck only if it was purchased from a dealer. Or so I have heard.

My truck is going in tomorrow to be checked out. I have a soft spot but I didn't hit it really hard. We'll see what they say. I wish I hadn't hosed off the frame ever time I washed it in the winter.

So are the dealers looking to fail these things? I have a spot that dented when hit lightly with a hammer. I think it hit a few times it would break through. It seems like the only questionable spot I can find. I am going to the dealer tomorrow and have my fingers crossed.

The dealer does the test and then reports it to their FEILD TECH SPECIALIST. He/she then either comes out to see it or looks at pictures and then submits that to TOYOTA. They make the call. The dealer does NOT get paid from the customer or Toyota for this inspection, so it really doesnt matter. We just report what we find and let them decide what to do.
