Question Tacoma payload

Hello,

It seems no one from Toyota Canada can answer this question about the 03 Tacoma payload:

When I compare data from Toyota Canada (www.toyota.ca) and Toyota USA (www.toyota.com) websites I get conflicting figures about payload for similar Tacomas (4x4, Xtra Cab, Manual tranny). Toyota Canada rates the payload of this truck at 1100 lbs while Toyota USA rates the payload for the same vehicle at 1585 lbs. Why is there such a difference?

Toyota Canada rep. told me that these were two totally different trucks and that they should not be compared. Hmmm... not sure about this one!

Anyway. Does any of you have the real answer to this question? It may help me decide wether I buy a Tacoma or go with the competition. By the way, I plan to use the Tacoma for carrying a 900lbs truck camper and I don't want to be over the allowed payload for the truck.

Thanks for your help

Maybe you were looking at a Tundra's payload. The 1580 sounds about right for the Tundra but way to much for a tacoma. That or The U.S. site is messed up, I'd believe the Canada numbers.

Default 1580 is right

I've carried a 1600lb safe in mine once and it was straining. It was sitting close to the bump stops and bottomed out a coupe of times.... If you are going to be carrying close to 900lbs consistently, you should get a Tundra. If you do get the Tacoma be sure to upgrade the rear suspension w/an airbag system or at least an AAL(helper springs).... Tacoma rear suspensions are soft and you will get some major sagging w/that weight..
