Default '02 Tacoma headrests are jacked up!

I noticed the other day that the metal bar that runs through the headrest seems to be protruding through the cushion material. It hasn't punctured the fabric, but I can feel the bar right agains my head when I'm driving. i've since turned them around backwards, but it looks pretty ghetto. Has anyone else had this problem? And is there an "easy fix" short of buying a whole new set of headrests. Both of my headrests have this problem. Thanks!

I have the same problem with my 98. Do you use seat covers?? I use them & think that caused the cushion to be pulled down below the bars.. Hate to get whiplash with the headreasts like that..

I just noticed the same problem on my 03 Dbl Cab...I rarely even touch the headrests so I'm not sure why that happened....

Never had this problem. I don't rest my head on the headrest while driving though.

Mine are the same as you describe. I can feel the metal bar through the fabric but it has not come through yet. I wonder if we could take it apart and rebuild it using maybe expanding insulation. We would have to be able to spray that stuff in some type of form until it dried and then would probably have to shape it. Might work. I don't know what a replacement would cost.

My 00' Tacoma has this issue with both headrests. Over time I think they just get this way. I'm sure you could take the headrest off and figure out a way to pull the fabric off it. Then go to walmart or hobby lobby or something and find some replacement mattress foam or something of the sort and cut out your own peice to match the original foam inside it. Use some arosol glue to attach and keep in place. Put the cover back on and you got a restored headset!

Same thing happened to my 01, I just pulled the fabric cover off, readjusted the foam, and taped it up with duct tape. Worked like a charm, about 10 minutes total.

_Glad to hear you're using this: I plan to keep it much more aggressively up-to-date than has been the case in the past, but don't hesitate to let me know if you find errors or need clarifications.
